Ambode over Alleged N9.9bn Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m2920267550356814500\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\nJustice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos,<br \/>\non Tuesday, August 6, 2019, ordered the freezing of the sum of N9.9bn<br \/>\nbelonging to the Lagos State government.<\/p>\n<p>The funds are domiciled in First City Monument Bank, FCMB, account<br \/>\nnumber 5617984012; Access Bank account number 0060949275 and Zenith Bank<br \/>\naccount number 1011691254, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Chuka Obiozor gave the order, following an ex-parte application<br \/>\nfiled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC had prayed the court to freeze the account pending the<br \/>\nconclusion of investigation and possible prosecution of Adewale<br \/>\nAdesanya, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Chief of Staff to<br \/>\nformer Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.<\/p>\n<p>The applicant, EFCC, in an affidavit deposed to by Kungmi Daniel, an<br \/>\noperative of the Commission, stated that there was &#8220;a huge inflow of<br \/>\nN9,927,714,443.29&#8221; from the state accounts into an FCMB bank account<br \/>\nopened on September 17, 2018 during the administration of the immediate<br \/>\npast\u00a0 governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, and operated by Adesanya.<\/p>\n<p>It was further stated that the schedule of the FCMB account showed how<br \/>\nAdesanya and other signatories to the account made fraudulent transfer<br \/>\nfrom the accounts of the Lagos State Government and dissipated the funds<br \/>\nhoused in the said accounts.<\/p>\n<p>In his submission, counsel to the EFCC, Mohammed Abbas, said &#8220;The trend<br \/>\nin the account is that the account always witnessed huge inflow from<br \/>\nLagos State Government in the above scheduled accounts managed by the<br \/>\nrespondent (Adesanya)&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Abbas, therefore, prayed the court to grant an order to temporarily<br \/>\nattach and take over the accounts to enable it conclude its<br \/>\ninvestigations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There have been concerted efforts and attempts to dissipate the<br \/>\ncontents of the accounts listed in the schedule to this application.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Without freezing the nominated accounts and temporarily forfeiting the<br \/>\nmoney to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, there is no<br \/>\nway the fraud being perpetrated using the scheduled accounts can be<br \/>\nstopped,&#8221; he further told the court.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, Justice Obiozor granted the prayers of the counsel to the<br \/>\nCommission.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge adjourned further proceedings to September 9, 2019.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"conversation-footer\" class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, ordered the freezing of the sum of N9.9bn belonging to the Lagos State&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":68217,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-68213","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusive"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Court Freezes Accounts Linked to Ex-Gov.
