\nAnambra indigenes\u00a0 resident in Malaysia have raised the alarm\u00a0 over how most women and girls from the state in that country are into prostitution and\u00a0 sex trafficking.<\/p>\n

The Anambra- state indigenes in Malaysia made the disclosure on Thursday at a press conference in Awka, the Anambra Stats capital.<\/p>\n

Speaking through their leader,\u00a0 \u00a0Okwunwanne Mmaduka, under the aegis of Anambra State Welfare Association Malaysia,
\nsaid\u00a0 the development had become a “huge concern, embarrassing and too unbearable\u00a0 to them”.<\/p>\n

Mmaduka said, they had planned advocacy visits to stakeholders\u00a0 in the state to let them know of the situation over there.<\/p>\n

” We’ll meet the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe and other monarchs, governor Willie Obiano and other stakeholders in the state on how to stop the trend” he said.<\/p>\n

According\u00a0 to him, they received over 20 complaints every week on the activities of Anambra\u00a0 women,who are sex workers in Malaysia, and many of them\u00a0 \u00a0had lost their lives in the trade .<\/p>\n

” We have rescued most of them and sent them back to Nigeria, while some others have been sent to school in Malaysia by us. The trend is giving us bad name in that country.<\/p>\n

“ASWAM is disturbed by the increasing cases of Anambra State women and girls in Malaysia falling victims of sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation ”<\/p>\n

“”ASWAM is therefore, employing community-based and state-wide campaigns to combat the menace.<\/p>\n

“We are taking the campaigns to families, communities and traditional institutions here in Anambra State.<\/p>\n

“We are raising awareness among our young people, parents, government and the public on the dangers therein ”<\/p>\n

“All hands must be on deck in this fight” , he stated.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
