The Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman,
\nhas lashed out at\u00a0 the National Chairman of the All Progressives
\nCongress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, and other leaders of the party of
\nfailing to discharge their responsibilities, stating that the party
\nchairman must not enforce his inconsiderate of options attitude in the
\nforthcoming Kogi, Edo governorship elections.<\/p>\n
In a letter dated August 6 and titled, \u201cAPC: Appeal for Reconciliation,\u201d
\nand addressed to Oshiomhole, Lukman queried why superior organs of the
\nparty had not been meeting and also questioned the capacity of the
\nformer Edo governor to lead the ruling party.<\/p>\n
The APC Governors Forum Director General cited the losses of the party
\nin the just concluded General Elections in some states, the suspension
\nof some key members, and possibility of defeat in the coming elections
\nin some states.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cWe had challenges that deprived our party the opportunity to
\ncontest 2019 election in Rivers, stripped our party of electoral victory
\nin Zamfara, engendered highest levels of leadership animosities in Imo,
\nOgun, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kano, Ondo, Oyo, etc. Today, with Kogi and Edo
\nelections approaching similar leadership animosities are defining
\npolitical life of the party in those states.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy distant observation is that there is hardly any difference between
\nyour approach in managing the party and the way Chief Oyegun had managed
\nit during his tenure. Instead, things have really got worse and
\npainfully, it would appear, you are in denial of this reality,\u201d he
\nstated.<\/p>\n
The Progressives Governors Forum has as members state governors elected
\nunder the platform of the APC.<\/p>\n
According to him, the internal wrangling in APC resulted in the
\nsuspension of three serving governors (two of them now senators) and two
\nmembers of National Working Committee (NWC) in the build up to the 2019
\ngeneral election.<\/p>\n
He disclosed that he had earlier made efforts to draw Oshiomhole\u2019s
\nattention to the growing problems in the party, but said the move was
\nrebuffed.<\/p>\n
\u201cKindly recall that sometime in June this year (2019), I sent what I
\ncalled a private memo on the issues of reported disciplinary actions
\nagainst Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State by the NWC.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, the memo noted that before the 2019 elections, the NWC had
\nsimilarly suspended former Governors Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun
\nof Imo and Ogun states respectively. Between June and now, Senator Lawal
\nShuaibu, APC Deputy National Chairman, North and Alhaji Inuwa
\nAbdulkadir, APC Vice National Chairman (North-West) have also been
\nsimilarly suspended.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would appear that the leadership problems facing the party are
\ngetting deeper and in the circumstances the business of building the
\nparty will be sacrificed.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince emerging as the National Chairman of our party, I have had cause
\nto review decisions and actions you have taken as the National Chairman
\nand often I have difficulty reconciling many of the decisions and
\nactions you took with the leadership standards you upheld.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a painful reality that we have found ourselves in situation of
\nnear stalemate in many states under your leadership. Embarrassingly, our
\nleaders, including your very self, appear to be stubbornly inconsiderate
\nof other options of resolving these challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the electoral loss of Oyo, Imo, Zamfara, Adamawa and Bauchi are not
\na wakeup call to the dangers that lie ahead, what could have been! Is it
\nthat our leaders are indifferent to the possible return of People\u2019s
\nDemocratic Party (PDP)?\u201d he queried.<\/p>\n
The Progressive Governors Forum DG added: \u201cIn all my years of
\nassociation with you, I never imagine that one day you will be so
\ncomfortable as to be indifferent to challenges that could threaten our
