Team of police from Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anambra state,<\/div>\n

have allegedly injured a 98-year-old woman in Achina, Aguata Local
\nGovernment Area of the state during search for vital documents.<\/p>\n

It was gathered that the incident happened on Aug. 19, when the
\noperatives invaded a family home of one Emeka Okpalaku in Achina at the
\ninvitation of one Esther Chiemerie Nzekwe from the same Local Government
\nArea.<\/p>\n

Emeka Okpalaku, a Japan-based businessman of Achina married to Esther
\nNzekwe from Uga, who was virtually abandoned in Achina alongside their
\ndaughter with his aged mother, Mrs Cecilia Okpalaku his country home.<\/p>\n

Emeka Okpalaku, was, however, said to pay occasional visits home to
\ncheck on his wife and daughter.<\/p>\n

But trouble started when the husband visited home to discover that his
\nwife terminated pregnancy for their second child.<\/p>\n

It was Esther’s inability to explain reason for aborting the pregnancy
\nthat compelled Emeka to threaten to opt out of the marriage.<\/p>\n

Emeka having sent his wife away left their lone daughter in custody of
\nhis nonagenarian mother.<\/p>\n

The story changed when his embattled wife stormed the husband’s place in
\nAchina with some SARS operatives, to forcefully takeaway their daughter.<\/p>\n

It was alleged that the SARS operatives assaulted the 98-year-old woman
\nin the process, as she tried to stop them from taking away the child.<\/p>\n

Sources said that the aged woman had since been hospitalised following
\ninjuries allegedly inflicted on her by the operatives.<\/p>\n

Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, Police Superintendent (SP),
\nHaruna Mohammed said the allegation was false.<\/p>\n

Haruna, who gave a different account of the incident, saying that they
\nwere never formally married.<\/p>\n

He added that the police had since opened investigations on the matter.<\/p>\n

“The real fact of the issue is that the man confiscated the credentials
\nof his fianc\u00e9e in order to deny her opportunity of reporting for
\nNational Youth Service at the camping site.<\/p>\n

“The deadline for reporting to the NYSC Camp was on Aug. 20 with Emeka
\npreparing to travel back to his Japan base.<\/p>\n

“The complainant’s lawyer sent in a petition to Anambra Police Command;
\nthe commissioner, then, ordered discreet investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n

“However, as soon as the suspect sighted the Police, he escaped through
\na window in the house. The police, then, used power of ingress to gain
\naccess into the house.”<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
