Unless succour comes the way of the Better Nigeria Progressive Party
\n(BNPP) gubernatorial candidate in the last general elections in Anambra
\nstate, Mr Ikem Ohanugo and others may lose their houses to erosion
\nmenace.<\/p>\n

The Idima autonomous community in Ideato North Local Government Area of
\nImo state where Ohanugo and others hailed from was already devastated by
\nwater flooding which had destroyed most of the farmlands and washed away
\neconomic crops.<\/p>\n

Expressing worries, Ohanugo who is also the President General of the
\ncommunity, told this journalist in Onitsha, Anambra state on Sunday that
\n“the erosion menace is at the back of my house and if nothing is done
\nurgently to stop it, my house and six others will give way with scores
\nof the occupants rendered homeless”.<\/p>\n

He recalled that they had appealed to the immediate past governor of Imo
\nstate, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to come to their rescue, but to no avail.<\/p>\n

“Presently the erosion menace located at Okpakanaezeani village, has
\ncaught off the road between Idima and Izuii communities. It is now a
\nforest site.<\/p>\n

“We are appealing to the present state government led by Gov. Emeka
\nIhedioha and Federal Government to come to our rescue.<\/p>\n

“We have planted bamboo trees that were uprooted by the menace and my
\nbuilding and others are at the verge of collapse,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

On his plan towards the infrastructural development of the Idima
\ncommunity Ohanugo said he is shopping for about N56million to give the
\ncommunity a face-lift.<\/p>\n

“The development will come in three batches; we are starting with
\nelectrification of the community. Already we have electrified our Afor
\nMarket with solar energy.<\/p>\n

“We needed about 500 poles to electrify the entire community and
\nN18million will complete the job, while N25million and N3million will be
\nused to construct a shopping plaza in Afor Market and integrated
\nservices respectively and others.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
