The Federal Government has approved the reduction of of visa charges
\npayable by US citizens in line with the reciprocity policy.<\/p>\n
This comes after the United States increased the cost of visa
\napplication for Nigerians.<\/p>\n
Nigerians are required to pay a fee called visa \u2018issuance fee\u2019, or
\n\u2018reciprocity fee\u2019, for all applications for non-immigrant visas in B, F,
\nH1B, I, L, and R visa classifications.<\/p>\n
The issuance\/reciprocity fee is different from the application fees as
\nthis will be charged in addition to the non-immigrant visa application
\nfee.<\/p>\n
However, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola in a statement by the
\nDirector Press and\u00a0 Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, said that \u201cthe
\nMinistry acknowledges that there were engagements with the United States
\nEmbassy on the issue and in the aftermath, a Committee was set up to
\nconduct due diligence in line with the Ministry\u2019s extant policy on
\nreciprocity of Visa fees.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Committee had concluded its assignment and submitted a Report but
\nthe issuance of authorisation for its recommendations was delayed due to
\ntransition processes in the Ministry at the policy level.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Honourable Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has
\napproved the decrease of Visa charges payable by US citizens in line
\nwith reciprocity policy as recommended by the Committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccordingly, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service
\n(NIS), Muhammad Babandede, has been directed to implement the decrease
\nin Nigeria\u2019s Visa charges to US Citizens with effect from Thursday, 29th
\nAugust, 2019\u201d.<\/p>\n
