{"id":68929,"date":"2019-09-04T18:31:12","date_gmt":"2019-09-04T17:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=68929"},"modified":"2019-09-04T18:31:12","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T17:31:12","slug":"court-grants-order-for-forfeiture-of-properties-traced-to-okorocha-wife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/court-grants-order-for-forfeiture-of-properties-traced-to-okorocha-wife\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Grants Order For Forfeiture of Properties\u00a0 Traced To Okorocha, Wife"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has obtained<br \/>\norders for the interim forfeiture of assets traced to a former Imo<br \/>\ngovernor, Rochas Okorocha, and his wife.<\/p>\n<p>The Head, Enugu Zonal Office of the commission, Usman Imam, said this<br \/>\nWednesday in Enugu while briefing journalists on the activities of the<br \/>\ncommission in the last eight months.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Imam said the commission also obtained similar order on a property<br \/>\ntraced to a former aide to Mr Okorocha, Paschal Obi, and the former<br \/>\ngovernor\u2019s daughter.<\/p>\n<p>He said the commission had established prima facie cases against the<br \/>\nsuspects which they would answer to.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Imam said the commission would like to know how the Rochas Foundation<br \/>\nand other accomplices acquired and or converted some of the property for<br \/>\npersonal use.<\/p>\n<p>He listed some of the property to include a 16-block cum 96 flats and an<br \/>\neight-bungalow multimillion naira estate, hotel, two schools, shopping<br \/>\nplaza, supermarket, hospital, and four vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC chief said while the hospital was traced to Mr Obi, the<br \/>\nremaining properties were traced to the former governor and his family,<br \/>\nincluding his wife and daughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope to get permanent forfeiture orders on the property in order to<br \/>\nreturn them to the people of the state,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Imam said all the facilities, including the schools, would remain<br \/>\nfunctional as the commission would not like to shut them down for the<br \/>\nsake of the students and other users.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOther recoveries were made and are awaiting forfeiture, but for the<br \/>\ncourt vacation. They include a twin three-storey building with a<br \/>\nthree-bedroom bungalow and a duplex, both in Enugu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe properties were recovered from cyber fraudsters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Imam said the commission, within the period, recovered N213.85<br \/>\nmillion and 10, 600 US dollars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn one of such recoveries, one Augustine Ejimokor, who defrauded his<br \/>\nvictim of the sum of 5,000 US dollars and used it to acquire a Mercedez<br \/>\nBenz C300 was ordered to forfeit the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, the zone has arrested 88 suspected fraudsters since 2015, with<br \/>\n70 of them in 2019.
