{"id":69166,"date":"2019-09-16T21:31:48","date_gmt":"2019-09-16T20:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=69166"},"modified":"2019-09-16T21:56:44","modified_gmt":"2019-09-16T20:56:44","slug":"police-detains-punch-reporter-in-anambra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/police-detains-punch-reporter-in-anambra\/","title":{"rendered":"Police detains Punch Reporter in Anambra"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m-6181291064089429943\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">Anambra police command on Monday arrested a reporter with Punch<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">newspapers, Mr Tony Okafor over a petition by a former lecturer with<br \/>\nNnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.The former lecturer, Dr Peter Ekemezie had in a report published by<br \/>\nPunch newspaper been revealed to have forged some credentials to attain<br \/>\na PhD in the university.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the publication, the management of the institution after its<br \/>\ninvestigation sacked the lecturer.<\/p>\n<p>Conveying his dismissal, the registrar of the institution, Barr<br \/>\nPhilomena Okoye in a letter ordered the indicted lecturer in June to<br \/>\nimmediately hand over all the institution&#8217;s property and must not return<br \/>\nto the institution except with the express permission of the Vice<br \/>\nChancellor.<\/p>\n<p>The Punch reporter in Anambra, Mr Tony Okafor however disclosed that he<br \/>\nwas on Monday, around 12pm arrested by policemen, on the order of the<br \/>\nsacked lecturer.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, SP Haruna<br \/>\nMohammed however denied that Okafor was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>He said the reporter was only invited by the police after the indicted<br \/>\nformer lecturer, Ekemezie wrote a petition against him to the police<br \/>\ncommissioner in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He said, &#8220;There was a formal petition to the\u00a0 Commissioner of Police<br \/>\nagainst one Mr.Tony Okafor and Seven other persons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Police invited Mr Tony Okafor for interview to ascertain the<br \/>\nveracity of the complaint against him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tony Okafor was never detained by the Police that&#8217;s why he is still<br \/>\nusing his handset to communicate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Commissioner of Police has directed that I should findout out the<br \/>\ncircumstances surrounding the incident from the OC incharge of the case<br \/>\nand feed him back immediately.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have contacted the OC and he stated that the officer handling the<br \/>\ncase will come and give Mr Tony Okafor the petition to go through to<br \/>\nenable him respond.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have equally contacted Mr Tony and assure him that he will be granted<br \/>\nbail as soon as the IPO comes back and investigation will continue.
