President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr. Mrs. Folashade Yemi-Esan as
\nthe Acting Head of the Civil Service of the Federation with immediate
\neffect. Dr. Mrs. Yemi-Esan, who is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
\nPetroleum Resources takes over from Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, who
\nhas been directed to proceed on an indefinite leave to allow conclusion
\nof the investigation being carried out by the Economic and Financial
\nCrimes Commission.<\/p>\n
In a statement Wednesday night, President Buhari also approved the
\nextension of the tenure of seven (7) retiring Permanent Secretaries for
\na period of one calendar year with effect from 1st October, 2019 to
\nensure stability in the Federal Civil Service and effective delivery on
\nthe nine priority areas of the administration as well as the mandates
\ngiven to the new Ministers.<\/p>\n
The affected Permanent Secretaries are:<\/p>\n
i. Mrs. Georgina Ehuriah \u2013 Ministry of Interior<\/p>\n
ii. Mrs. Ifeoma I. Anagbogu \u2013 Federal Ministry of Women Affairs<\/p>\n
iii. Mrs. Grace Gekpe \u2013 Federal Ministry of Information & Culture<\/p>\n
iv. Dr. Umar M. Bello \u2013 Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Rural
\nDevelopment<\/p>\n
v. Suleiman Mustapha Lawal \u2013 Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/p>\n
vi. Mrs. Comfort C. Ekaro \u2013 Federal Ministry of Water Resources<\/p>\n
vii. Mr. Olusegun A. Adekunle \u2013 General Services Office (Office of the
\nSecretary to the Government of the Federation)<\/p>\n
Similarly, Mr. President has directed the Office of the Head of the
\nCivil Service of the Federation to commence the process for the
\nselection of new Permanent Secretaries to replace all retiring Permanent
\nSecretaries.<\/p>\n
The decision of Government to extend the tenure of these Permanent
\nSecretaries is premised on the need to ensure that the new Ministers are
\nproperly guided, briefed about their sectors and to ensure that a solid
\nfoundation is laid for the delivery on the Presidential Mandate which
\nthey jointly signed.<\/p>\n
The Permanent Secretaries will also help the Ministers to manage the
\nprocess for the preparation of the 2020 Budget in line with the
\ncommitment of Government to return to the January-December budget circle
\nand help develop various policies and programmes aimed at lifting
\n100million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years.<\/p>\n
The action of Mr. President is in exercise of the powers conferred under
\nSection 171 (2) d of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of
