A 46-year-old woman, Grace Etiefon has been arrested by officials of
\nNigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra Command for
\nalleged human trafficking.<\/p>\n
Etiefon who hails from Akwa Ibom state was apprehended by men of the
\nCorps when she was about sending her victim, Miss Njideka Akinpelu,
\n30-year old to Lagos for onward movement to Libya on Monday, Sept. 30.<\/p>\n
Mr David Bille, Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC confirmed the incident
\nto this journalist early hours of Thursday in Awka.<\/p>\n
Bille said the suspect was arrested at a Lagos-bound motor park at
\nUnizik Junction, Awka, on said the date.<\/p>\n
Bille said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was been
\ntaken to Libya where she would be used for prostitution.<\/p>\n
The victim from Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government of Anambra State,
\nsaid she was a petty trader at Unizik Junction, before the suspect came
\nand offered to assist her to Libya for a better life.<\/p>\n
Bille used the opportunity to warn residents of the area against
\nrelationship with people of dubious motives.<\/p>\n
The NSCDC Commadant, however, stated that the Corps would not hesitate
\nin the clamp down of syndicates of human trafficking and other crimes in
\nthe state.<\/p>\n
He said the suspect would be handed over to National Agency for the
\nProhibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for more investigations
\nand prosecution, adding that Etiefon’s action contravened Human Rights
\nAct.<\/p>\n
He, however, called on the general public to avail the Corps of useful
\ninformation and warned perpetrators of such acts to move out of the
\nstate.<\/p>\n
