\nThese are really good times for the people and government of Anambra
\nState. Let us take a cursory look at three major developments which took
\nplace in just the past week.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, October 5, Anambra State alone won four of the 24 National
\nAwards available at the 2019 Teachers Day in a competition organised by
\nthe Federal Ministry of Education in conjunction with The Presidency and
\nthe Nigeria Union of Teachers for schools and individuals which excel in
\nprimary and post primary education.<\/p>\n

Many states didn\u2019t receive any, and none of the few which received got
\nmore than a prize.
\nOf the five cars that President Muhammadu Buhari donated for the
\ncompetition, Anambra took two. Anambra State has been dominating in this
\ncompetition in the last three years.<\/p>\n

While the latest educational exploits were making headlines news, it was
\nrevealed that the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Adamu
\nBulkachuwa, has approved the creation of a division of the appellate
\ncourt in Awka, the Anambra State capital.<\/p>\n

Unlike in other states where the federal authorities built such courts,
\nAnambra State has provided the structures, including the court rooms,
\nadministrative quarters and five residences for the judges.<\/p>\n

“We cannot continue to wait for the federal authorities,\u201d explained
\nGov. Willie Obiano for the action, “because 70 per cent of the cases at
\nthe Enugu Division of the Court of Appeal originate from our state.<\/p>\n

“We wear the shoes, and so know where they pinch. We can save our
\npeople the time, financial resources and drudgery as well as security
\nrisks involved in driving regularly in large numbers on the bad
\nEnugu-Onitsha Road.<\/p>\n

“Our providing the buildings is comparable to our reconstruction and
\nrehabilitation of federal roads in our state for the benefit of our
\npeople.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Perhaps the most dramatic of the major events in Anambra State in the
\nlast one week was the launch of the second phase of Operation Kpochapu
\n(or Operation Wipe Out Crime), which saw the deployment of super smart
\nsurveillance cameras from Industrial Video and Control in Boston,
\nMassachusetts.<\/p>\n

This is the first time the sophisticated gadgets, used to detect and
\ncapture the two radicalised brothers who detonated deadly bombs at the
\n2013 Boston Marathon, have been deployed in Africa.
\nGov. Obiano calls the systematic use of the state-of-the-art
\ncommunication gadgets as the corner stone of the second phase of
\nOperation Kpochapu the Smart Security City Project.<\/p>\n

What took place in Awka last Friday was no ordinary launch of advanced
\nsecurity electronics but an unveiling of security armada.<\/p>\n

“I have never seen anything like this in my decades of service in the
\nNigeria Police Force!,\u2019\u2019 screamed Deputy Commissioner of Police Frank
\nMbah, Head of the police relations team at the Force Headquarters in
\nAbuja.<\/p>\n

There were 101 vehicles, many of them from Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing
\nCompany in Nnewi, the only indigenous auto manufacturing firm in West
\nAfrica.<\/p>\n

In addition, there were hi-tech 79 motorcycles. Each is fully equipped
\nwith the latest security devices.<\/p>\n

The hi-tech vehicles are branded accordingly, and have been distributed
\nto the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, State
\nSecurity Service, National Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria
\nCustoms Service, Nigerian Correctional (formerly Prison) Service,
\nNigerian Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and
\neven the Federal Road Safety Commission.<\/p>\n

The surveillance cameras work efficiently at night because they have
\ninfra red light. Each covers a space as big as four Olympic-size
\nfootball fields. There is also an advanced drone to be operated in
\nconjunction with the Nigerian Air Force.<\/p>\n

Not to be forgotten is the presence of three big Dura Patcher trucks
\nfrom the United States to be used for not only security but for fixing
\npotholes and craters.<\/p>\n

They will be deployed to the roads and streets of Anambra State once the
\nrains are over, thus enabling Ndi Anambra to drive around smoothly
\nduring Christmas when millions of them living outside the state return
\nhome to be with their relatives, friends, in laws and others.<\/p>\n

Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police who, on behalf of the
\nvarious services, took delivery of the Anambra State security armada,
\nsaid that he was expecting a large number of vehicles and sophisticated
\nequipment when he was coming to the state, but certainly not on the
\nscale of what he saw at Ekwueme Square.<\/p>\n

Other governments, he added, should learn from the revolutionary steps
\nthat Anambra State has taken to protect life and property in the state.<\/p>\n

Gov. Obiano has thrown a big challenge to his counterparts across the
\ncountry and even the Federal Government because all federal agencies
\nthat deal with security, law and order should go full digital in their
\noperations, the way Anambra State has.<\/p>\n

Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi, an accomplished Nigerian Air Force pilot,
\nmade a profound statement when he observed that another governor could
\nhave pocketed the money spent on the acquisition of these assets and the
\ntraining of the officers to run them and label it security expenditure
\nwhich he would not account for.<\/p>\n

“This is where Anambra makes the difference,\u201d he said. AVM Chiobi, mni,
\nis Head, Anambra State Integrated Security Surveillance, the platform
\nthat coordinates the various service personnel and advanced equipment.<\/p>\n

Many of the finest professionals and entrepreneurs from Anambra State,
\nlike the rest of Ndi Anambra, identify proudly with the Anambra Smart
\nSecurity project.<\/p>\n

They include Sen. Onyeabo Obi; Allen Onyema, the popular chairman of Air
\nPeace; Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, Chairman, Nestoil; Stella Okoli,
\nfounder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals;<\/p>\n

Others are Cosmas Ibeto of Ibeto Group; Agunze Chibu Ikokwu, former
\npresident of Aka Ikenga; Obiora Chukwuka, chairman of Greenlife
\nPharmaceuticals; Chika Okafor of Chikason Group; Ben Okoye, chairman of
\nBrass Fertilizer and Ifeanyi Obiora, chairman of Obi King Group.<\/p>\n

The rest are Simeon Eyisi, whose firm holds the Samsung franchise in
\nNigeria; Raymond Obieri, founding chairman of Intercontinental Bank;
\nInnocent Chukwuma of Innoson Motors; Bishop Paulinus Okafor of Awka
\nDiocese and a number of National Assembly members.<\/p>\n

“These are just good times for our state,\u2019\u2019 observes Edwin Enwegbara,
\nan engineer and founder of Eauxwell Group, echoing the popular words of
\nthe American band known as Chic, which Bill Clinton made his slogan when
\nhe was campaigning for reelection in 1997 as America\u2019s president.<\/p>\n

From agriculture to industrialisation to security to education and to
\nmany other sectors, Anambra State has become a most competitive state.
\nBoth the people and their government are living up to their reputation
\nas the Light of the Nation.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
