\nRIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has asked President
\nMuhammadu Buhari to consider if he will require a quick leave of absence
\nto resolve the emerging brouhaha and altercation in the presidential
\nhousehold before resuming to avoid undue distractions.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has
\nsuggested to President Muhammadu Buhari to refer the intense
\ndisagreements between his Wife and Nigeria’s first lady Mrs. Aisha
\nBuhari and Ms. Fatima the daughter of Mamman Daura his uncle and
\ninfluential power broker in the Presidency to the National Human Rights
\ncommission (NHRC) for swift resolution so the altercation can abate.<\/p>\n

Besides, the Rights group has described as an avoidable political
\nscandal, the heated verbal exchanges between the first lady Mrs. Aisha
\nBuhari and Fatima, the daughter of one of the most powerful political
\nforces behind president Buhari and his uncle Alhaji Mamman Daura even as
\nthe Rights group warned that it will be unconstitutional if official
\ntime and resources are deployed by the presidency to escalate a family
\nfeud which may infringe on the sacred constitutional oath of office he
\nswore before assuming duty as the president of Nigeria. Besides, the
\nRights group reminded President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigeria is
\ncurrently contending with massive societal, economic, security and
\nenvironmental challenges requiring total attention and concentration of
\nthe President and his team which May not be properly attended to if
\nfamily feuds wouldn’t let him focus on delivering the democracy
\ndividends. “Mr. President must be aware that the nation sleep walked
\ninto the global poverty capital under his watch only last year
\noverthrowing\u00a0 India which has a population of over a billion people just
\nas Nigeria with a statistically fraudulent and disputed population of
\n200 million already has over 92 million citizens who are absolutely
\npoor. Insecurity and instability are twin social evils that have
\nthreatened our existence and millions of Nigerians sleep with one eye
\nopen, Nigeria can’t afford to have a President whose attention is
\ndivided by unnecessary domestic squabbles of the Women members of the
\nimmediate and extended families.”<\/p>\n

HURIWA said the entire scenarios of domestic squabbles now exported to
\nthe public space has graphically painted Nigeria as a vassal state even
\nwhen it is clear that Nigeria is a constitutional democracy with
\nprinciples of rule of law.<\/p>\n

The Rights group said under the extant constitution, it is
\nunconstitutional for the holder of the office of President to let his
\ndomestic issues stay in the way of the qualitative and articulate
\npursuit and implementation of his job specifications just as these sets
\nof constitutional duties of the President does not include using
\nofficial time and resources to settle or escalate domestic
\nmisunderstanding which ordinarily should have been resolved internally
\nwithout making it or enabling it to constitute a horrendous nuisance and
\nglobal embarrassment to the Country.<\/p>\n

In a statement by the national coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and
\nthe national media director Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA affirmed that
\ngoing by a news report by a media house bankrolled by\u00a0 the national
\nleader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in which an
\nofficial of the president’s office was anonymously quoted as playing a
\nrole in the squabbles\u00a0 between Mamman Daura’s daughter and the first
\nlady dovetailing in the official specifically backing the first lady, it
\nis clear that the exchanges if not stopped forthwith could constitute a
\ndirect violation of the constitutional oath of office by president
\nMuhammadu Buhari just as the Rights group said the president may
\nconsider taking few days break from office to sort out the domestic
\nissues to check further conflict of interests.”<\/p>\n

HURIWA\u00a0 specifically stated thus: “The Nation newspaper had
\nauthoritatively reported that a Presidency source on Monday faulted the
\nrecent release of a video by Mamman Daura’s daughter, Fatima.”<\/p>\n

HURIWA citing the media report stated that we were told that the
\nPresidency source spoke about the video, released in the wake of the
\nrumor claiming President Muhammadu Buhari was going to take a second
\nwife last Friday, had shown part of the First Lady, Aisha Buhari’s body
\nwhile shouting on the need for the Dauras to leave an accommodation in
\nthe Villa.<\/p>\n

The Rights group said the influential national newspaper owned by the
\nNational leader of All Progressives Congress had told Nigerians that a
\nPresidency source, who does not want her name in prints, said that the
\nvideo was shot over a year ago when the President’s son, Yusuf, had
\npower bike accident in Abuja.<\/p>\n

Citing the same report penned by a senior editor of the respected
\nnational newspaper the Rights recalled that the newspaper quoted the
\nPresidency source as stated that\u00a0 the accommodation which brought about
\nthe heated disagreements was needed for the then recuperating Yusuf, the
\neldest Son of President Muhammadu Buhari just as the Source said the
\norder for the Dauras to vacate the Villa accommodation, she said, was
\napproved by the President<\/p>\n

She said: “By now the airwaves are awash with Fatima Mamman Daura’s
\ndaughter consenting to the fact that she indeed shot and leaked the now
\ninfamous video clip which showed the wife of the President in a very
\nangry mood.”<\/p>\n

HURIWA recalled the newspaper report as stating that: “The incident
\nhappened over a year ago when the wife of the President on the
\ninstructions of the President asked the Dauras to vacate their living
\nquarters inside the villa for a sick Yussuf Buhari, who was recuperating
\nafter an accident.For this reason, the quarters were needed and the
\nDauras were asked to move to another part of the Villa. Long before the
\naccident, Yusuf’s mother had requested in writing for the Dauras to
\nvacate the place because the building is officially designated for the
\nbiological children of any serving President.The IG of police, DG DSS,
\nNSA and the Vice President who was the acting President, were all
\nnotified of this request. Despite this, the Dauras deliberately refused
\nto comply with the instructions of the security agencies.”<\/p>\n

HURIWA said these statements are weighty and confirms that the Nigerian
\nPresidency is hobbled by seemingly disturbing and lingering supremacy
\nbattles between family members of the first family at the moment which
\ndoes not augur well for the smooth running of government just as HURIWA
\ncalled for an immediate truce or a reference to the National Human
\nRights commission of Nigeria\u00a0 for a quick resolution or on the
\nalternative Mr President takes few days off to resolve the domestic
\ndisputes himself as head of his family.<\/p>\n

HURIWA reminded President Muhammadu Buhari anout his binding oath of
\noffice which he swore as follows: “I, ………… do solemnly
\nswear\/affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the
\nFederal Republic of Nigeria; that as President of the Federal Republic
\nof Nigeria, I will discharge my duties to the best of my ability,
\nfaithfully and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal
\nRepublic of Nigeria and the law, and always in the interest of the
\nsovereignty, integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of the
\nFederal Republic of Nigeria; that I will strive to preserve the
\nFundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy
\ncontained in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that I
\nwill not allow my personal interest to influence my official conduct or
\nmy official decisions; that I will to the best of my ability preserve,
\nprotect and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria;
\nthat I will abide by the Code of Conduct contained in the Fifth Schedule
\nto the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that in all
\ncircumstances, I will do right to all manner of people, according to
\nlaw, without fear or favour, affection or ill-will; that I will not
\ndirectly or indirectly communication or reveal to any person any matter
\nwhich shall be brought under my consideration or shall become known to
\nme as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, except as may be
\nrequired for the due discharge of my duties as President; and that I
\nwill devote myself to the service and well-being of the people of
\nNigeria.”<\/p>\n
