Lagos Business School on Sunday commenced its annual MDI Programme for
\nHealth Leaders and Managers in Africa at Protea Kuramo Waters, Victoria
\nIsland, Lagos.<\/p>\n
The week-long in-residence training programme, which is organized in
\npartnership with the Management Development Institute (MDI) and
\nfacilitated by Johnson & Johnson, is designed to improve the
\neffectiveness of health systems by enhancing the leadership and
\nmanagement skills of professionals devoted to delivering healthcare
\nservices to underserved populations.<\/p>\n
\u201cMuch focus has been on the technical areas of skills development in the
\nhealthcare sector. With MDI Health Leadership Programme, our objective
\nis to build a new crop of professionals who possess the technical
\nknowledge as well as business and managerial skills to deliver high
\nquality healthcare service,\u201d said Professor Olayinka David-West, the
\nAcademic Director of Lagos Business School.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the focus of this year\u2019s programme being \u2018Capacity Improvement for
\nMaternal, Newborn, and Community Healthcare Workers\u2019, the programme
\ngives participants an opportunity to learn and understand the critical
\nchallenges facing the sector while also working together to provide
\nworkable solutions towards solving these problems,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
In her remarks, Clare Omatseye, the President of Healthcare Federation
\nof Nigeria and CEO, JNC International, highlighted the issues facing the
\nhealthcare industry in Africa and the importance of innovation and
\ndisruption in tackling the identified challenges.<\/p>\n
Participants in the MDI Health Leadership Programme will gain access to
\nmanagement tools, frameworks, and knowledge that will enable them to
\nincrease the quantity and quality of health services they provide while
\nexpanding access to healthcare.<\/p>\n
The MDI programme which is administered by the Global Business School
\nNetwork (GBSN) has, since inception in 2006, graduated over 1,400
\nparticipants from 39 African countries.<\/p>\n
