President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the cutting down of foreign
\ntrips and\u00a0 estacode for Ministers and top government officials,
\ndirecting them to henceforth submit travel plans for clearance.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by the Director of Information, Willie Bassey, to The
\nSecretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, said the
\ndevelopment is in a bid to curb leakages and ensure efficiency in the
\nmanagement of resources.<\/p>\n
The president also approved Business Class seats for for ministers,
\npermanent secretaries, special advisers, senior special assistants to
\nthe president, chairmen of extra-ministerial departments and chief
\nexecutive officers of parastatals while other categories of public
\nofficers are to travel on economy class.<\/p>\n
The statement reads:<\/p>\n
\u201cPresident Muhammadu Buhari, has approved for immediate implementation,
\nadditional cost saving measures aimed at instilling financial discipline
\nand prudence, particularly, in the area of official travels,\u201d the
\nstatement read.<\/p>\n
\u201cHenceforth, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are
\nrequired to submit their Yearly Travel Plans for statutory meetings and
\nengagements to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the
\nFederation and\/or the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the
\nFederation for express clearance within the first quarter of the fiscal
\nyear, before implementation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are further required to make their presentation using the existing
\ntemplate and also secure approvals on specific travels as contained in
\nthe plan, from the appropriate quarters.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the Nature and Frequency of Travels, all public funded travels
\n(local and foreign), must be strictly for official purposes backed with
\ndocumentary evidence.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this regard, all foreign travels must be for highly essential
\nstatutory engagements that are beneficial to the interest of the
\ncountry. Except with the express approval of Mr. President, Ministers,
\nPermanent Secretaries, Chairmen of Extra-Ministerial Departments, Chief
\nExecutive Officers and Directors are restricted to not more than two (2)
\nforeign travels in a quarter.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso, travel days will no longer attract payment of Estacode Allowances
\nas duration of official trips shall be limited to only the number of
\ndays of the event as contained in the supporting documents to qualify
\nfor public funding.\u201d<\/p>\n
