The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office,
\nWednesday\u00a0 October\u00a0 16, 2019, arraigned twenty six suspected Pirates
\nalongside a company, Sam Pam Nigeria Limited\u00a0 and a Vessel,\u00a0 MV Neso II,
\nbefore Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court sitting in
\nIkoyi, Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on illegal dealing in
\npetroleum products.<\/p>\n

The suspects include Frances Onyeama, Adebayo M. Charles, Melvin A.
\nJack, Omogoye Wasiu Bolaji, Umoren Harrison Daniel, Oloyede Y. Ademola,
\nArichibong Aniete James, Richard Essien David, Oke Asaki and Mike Simon.<\/p>\n

Others are:\u00a0 Godswill Emmanuel Umoh, Edu Fidelis, Miebaka Iyaka, Kinsley
\nTerry, Austine Abararowei, Udom Victor Jerome, Victor Uchendu, Firstman
\nJob, Nelson Sokarabo Solomon, Emomotimi F. Watchman, Iwuoha Okechukwu
\nVictor, Ogerugba Patrick (a.k.a Odafe)\u00a0 Emmanuel Eze, Inyang Ruyie Grace
\nand Paul Obi
\nThe suspects who were arrested by the Nigerian Navy at the Lagos
\nAnchorage Area and handed over to the EFCC on October 14, 2019 pleaded
\nnot guilty to the charges preferred against them.<\/p>\n

One of the counts reads, “that you MV Neso II, Frances Onyeama,
\nAdebayo M. Charles, Melvin A. Jack, Omogoye Wasiu Bolaji, Umoren
\nHarrison Daniel, Oloyede Y. Ademola, Arichibong Aniete James, Richard
\nEssien David, Oke Asaki, Mike Simon, Godswill Emmanuel Umoh, Edu
\nFidelis, Miebaka Iyaka, Kinsley Terry, Austine Abararowei, Udom Victor
\nJerome, Victor Uchendu, Firstman Job, Nelson Sokarabo Solomon, Emomotimi
\nF. Watchman, Iwuoha Okechukwu Victor, Ogerugba Patrick (a.k.a Odafe)
\nEmmanuel Eze, Inyang Ruyie Grace, Paul Obi and Sam Pam Nigeria Limited
\nsometime within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did conspire
\namongst yourselves to deal in Petroleum Products off the Coast of Gabon
\nand thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 17(a) and (b) of
\nthe Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 laws of the Federation of Nigeria
\n(Revised Edition) 2004 and Punishable under the same Law”.<\/p>\n

In view of their plea, prosecuting counsel, M.K Bashir asked the court
\nfor a trial date.<\/p>\n

Counsel to the defendants, Adegboyega Adetunji, informed the court of a
\npending bail application and urged the judge to grant his clients bail.<\/p>\n

However, the prosecution counsel opposed the application.<\/p>\n

Justice Liman however granted bail to the 26 defendants in the sum of N2
\nmillion each and one surety in like sum. The surety must have property
\nwithin the Jurisdiction of the Court. He added that the Vessel (MV Neso
\nII) should produce insurance bond from a first class insurance company.<\/p>\n

The court adjourned hearing of the matter to 9, 11 and 13, December,
\n2019 and\u00a0 remanded 25 of them in prison custody and\u00a0 one in the EFCC
\ncustody, pending the perfection of their bail conditions.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
