October 17th 2019, Rome, Italy – The 31st General Assembly of ICCROM,
\nthe International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and
\nRestoration of Cultural Property, will be held in Rome, Italy, during
\nthe period from 30-31 October 2019.<\/p>\n
The two-day event will focus on the most relevant issues and topics of
\nconcern on cultural heritage promotion and provide a platform to
\nstimulate dialogue on sustainable approaches for the protection and
\npreservation of cultural and natural heritage in the world.<\/p>\n
The 31st General Assembly marks sixty years of ICCROM\u2019s activities.
\nICCROM was officially operational in Rome on the 1st of March 1959. Over
\nthese sixty years, ICCROM has had strong relations with all of its
\nMember States, particularly with the host country, Italy, both as a
\nmajor contributor to its budget and for the institutional long-standing
\nscientific partnerships, which contribute significantly to ICCROM
\nprojects and activities since its beginning.<\/p>\n
Delegations of ICCROM\u2019s 137 Member States will meet at this two-day
\nevent to discuss and enhance the Rome-based agency\u2019s strategic
\ndirections and work plan, and elect its new governing Council. The event
\nwill also be an opportunity to welcome ICCROM\u2019 newest Member State,
\nCosta Rica, and review activities and projects implemented by its
\nvarious programmes during the course of 2018-2019.<\/p>\n
Several high senior officials from Italy and representatives of the
\nUnited Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
\n(UNESCO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations
\n(FAO) in addition to representatives of international organisations,
\ndiplomats and members of the press are expected to attend the opening of
\nthe event at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday the 30th October 2019.<\/p>\n
A Thematic Discussion on \u201cDecolonization of the Heritage Field and its
\nImplications for Preservation and Management Practices\u201d will be held as
\npart of the 31st General Assembly on 31 October 2019. The Thematic
\nDiscussion will focus on experiences and perspectives of the four
\nspeakers from Jamaica, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa on the
\nrelevant topic and will be followed by a panel discussion and finally an
\nopen floor session.<\/p>\n
The ICCROM Award Ceremony will also be held during the 31st General
\nAssembly. This award is granted to individuals who have contributed
\nsignificantly to ICCROM\u2019s development, or who have special merit in the
\nfield of conservation, protection and restoration of cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
