Rivers State Governor,\u00a0 Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that he will
\ncontinue to work with security agencies for the purpose of securing the
\nstate.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike also pledged to wholeheartedly support the 6 Division of
\nthe Nigerian Army to effectively carry out Exercise Crocodile Smile 4 torid the state of criminal elements.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a Courtesy Visit by Major\u00a0 General Jamil Sarhem, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army at theGovernment House Port Harcourt on Thursday,\u00a0 Governor Wike reiteratedthat the military must restrict themselves to their traditional role of
\nmaintaining security.<\/p>\n
“I cannot be enemy to\u00a0 security agencies.\u00a0 Without security,\u00a0 there can
\nbe no governance.\u00a0 The Rivers State Government supported the first three exercises,\u00a0 we will support Exercise Crocodile Smile 4.<\/p>\n
“We should work as partners.\u00a0 We should not work as if there is a problem. I thank you for coming and hope that this will\u00a0 be\u00a0 a new
\nbeginning”, he said.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike warned the military against allowing politicians to infiltrate their ranks and compel them to take act outside their
\ntraditional roles.<\/p>\n
“As I said, we will give you the required support.\u00a0 However,
\nconcentrate on your Traditional roles. Don’t allow any politician use you.<\/p>\n
“Let any politician who wants to play politics,\u00a0 come and face me. The Army should remain on their constitutional role , that will help”, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He informed that the Rivers State Government under his watch played a key role in the establishment of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army.\u00a0 He noted that the State Government will continue to partner with the Army
\nto fight crime.<\/p>\n
“Rivers State Government played a great role in the establishment of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army.\u00a0 Of all the states,\u00a0 we played a greater
\nrole.<\/p>\n
“There is no way that the Rivers State Government will not partner with the Army to fight crime.\u00a0 Rivers State Government is willing to partner
\nwith the Nigerian Army to fight crime.<\/p>\n
“We have always supported Exercise Crocodile Smile.\u00a0 We will support Exercise Crocodile Smile 4”,
\nGovernor Wike described the visit of the General Officer Commanding 6
\nDivision as historic.<\/p>\n
The Rivers State Governor emphasised that the N100billion allocated to the Nigerian Army in the 2020 budget is inadequate towards\u00a0 thepromotion of security.<\/p>\n
Earlier,\u00a0 the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the NigerianArmy,\u00a0 Major General Jamil Sarhem said he was at the Government House Port Harcourt to seek the support of the Rivers State Government for the
\nforthcoming exercise Crocodile Smile 4.<\/p>\n
He said: “The purpose of this visit today is to intimate you of the Division’s Preparation for exercise Crocodile Smile 4 and invite you as
\none of the Special Guest guests “.<\/p>\n
He invited Governor Wike for the commencement of Exercise Crocodile Smile 4, which is a follow up to Exercise Crocodile Smile 1, 2 and 3. He
\nsaid the Exercise will be conducted in Rivers,\u00a0 Akwa Ibom,\u00a0 Bayelsa and Delta States.<\/p>\n
“Exercise Crocodile Smile 4 is a\u00a0 follow up exercise to Exercise Crocodile Smile 1,2 and 3. The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army is covering Akwa Ibom,\u00a0 Bayelsa,\u00a0 Delta and Rivers State.\u00a0 The per-exercise flag off will be held on 25th October,\u00a0 2019.<\/p>\n
“The purpose of the exercise is to build on the successes of the past editions by ensuring total\u00a0 security.\u00a0 This will be achieved by identification and clearing of flashpoints of criminal hideouts as well as destruction of illegal oil bunkering camps”, he said.<\/p>\n
THe added that the Exercise Crocodile Smile 4 will also include civil military cooperation in promoting activities such as medical Outreach.<\/p>\n
The General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army urged
\nGovernor Wike to sensitise Rivers people to support Exercise Crocodile
\nSmile 4.
