{"id":70318,"date":"2019-11-11T05:33:07","date_gmt":"2019-11-11T04:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=70318"},"modified":"2019-11-11T05:33:07","modified_gmt":"2019-11-11T04:33:07","slug":"otedola-makes-whooping-n5billion-donation-to-support-children-in-north-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/otedola-makes-whooping-n5billion-donation-to-support-children-in-north-east\/","title":{"rendered":"Otedola Makes Whooping N5billion Donation To Support Children In North East"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m-2894356333946194664\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<p><strong>Billionaire Femi Otedola, has made an unprecedented N5 billion donation to Save the Children,\u00a0the 100-year United Kingdom-based charity, to support its intervention in the north-east.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is arguably the largest individual donation to charity in Nigeria\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father, Mr. Femi Otedola, has been at the forefront of supporting worthy causes,\u201d Florence Otedola, aka DJ Cuppy and daughter of the billionaire said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is in this spirit that he will be donating the sum of N5bn to the children of Borno, Adamawa and Katsina through the Save the Children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event which was organised by the Cuppy Foundation to raise funds for Save the Children, is the biggest children-focused organisation in the world after UNICEF.<\/p>\n<p>Cuppy Foundation is the non-profit organisation founded by his daughter, Florence Otedola (aka DJ Cuppy).<\/p>\n<p>DJ Cuppy is a board ambassador for Save the Children and a member of the organisation\u2019s Africa advisory board.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to Otedola\u2019s donation, Kevin Watkins, chief executive officer of the charity, pledged that every penny out of it would be spent improving the lives of the children affected by insurgency in the north-east.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Aliko Dangote, Africa\u2019s richest man, announced a donation of N100 million.<\/p>\n<p>Dangote said many people find it difficult to give without knowing that \u201cthe more you give, the more blessed you become\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Bukola Saraki, former senate president; Babagana Kingibe, former secretary to the government of the federation; and Bola Shagaya, billionaire businesswoman, were among those at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The governors present were Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).<\/p>\n<p>Otedola, a well-regarded philanthropist, has in the past donated to good causes.<\/p>\n<p>In 2005, he instituted a N200 million scholarship for Lagos state undergraduates, same year he donated N300 million for the completion of the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>He, at various times, donated N100 million to the Lagos State College of Primary Education, N100 million to the Central Mosque, Ilorin (Kwara State), and N100 million to the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers state.<\/p>\n<p>He has committed to building and donating a faculty of engineering valued at N2 billion to the Augustine University in his hometown, Epe, Lagos state.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, he made life-saving interventions by footing the medical bills of Christian Chukwu, former captain and coach of Super Eagles; Peter Fregene, former international goalkeeper; Majek Fashek, celebrated Reggae artiste; as well as Sadiq Daba and Victor Olaotan, veteran actors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"conversation-footer\" class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Billionaire Femi Otedola, has made an unprecedented N5 billion donation to Save the Children,\u00a0the 100-year United Kingdom-based charity, to support its intervention in the north-east.
