{"id":70335,"date":"2019-11-11T21:26:52","date_gmt":"2019-11-11T20:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=70335"},"modified":"2019-11-11T21:30:34","modified_gmt":"2019-11-11T20:30:34","slug":"nia-director-in-embezzlement-money-laundering-scandal-efcc-receives-petition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/nia-director-in-embezzlement-money-laundering-scandal-efcc-receives-petition\/","title":{"rendered":"NIA Director In Embezzlement, Money Laundering Scandal, EFCC Receives Petition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former employee of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Aliu Ismail<br \/>\nOguche, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (<br \/>\nEFCC) and accused the agency&#8217;s Director of Administration, Ismaila<br \/>\nYusuf, of embezzling and diverting of public funds, tax evasion, money<br \/>\nlaundering, non-declaration of assets and deliberate falsehood.<\/p>\n<p>In the petition obtained by Ripples Nigeria and dated October 16, Oguche<br \/>\nalso accused Yusuf of owning a hotel and a bakery in Abuja, which he<br \/>\nsaid is against the NIA service guidelines<\/p>\n<p>The petitioner further accused the NIA director of operating an Illegal<br \/>\nBureau de Change from the hotel located in the Wuse II area of Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>He also accused the NIA official of falsely declaring that he is from<br \/>\nthe Sayawa tribal group in Bauchi State when actually he is from Igala<br \/>\nin Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p>On Yusuf&#8217;s undeclared assets, Oguche said the NIA owns and operates a<br \/>\nhotel located in Wuse II, Abuja named &#8220;Gold-plate Suites (RC 1085461).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He is the chairman of the hotel alongside his three children \u2013 Kabiru<br \/>\nIsmaila Yusuf, Habiba Ismaila Yusuf and Yusuf Abba \u2013 acting as<br \/>\ndirectors,&#8221; the petitioner said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the funds siphoned from the NIA are exchanged at<br \/>\nYusuf&#8217;s illegal Bureau de Change.<\/p>\n<p>The petition read: &#8220;Contrary to the law establishing hotel or bakery<br \/>\nbusinesses, there is no signpost for the either of the two businesses,<br \/>\nostensibly to evade taxation payable to the Federal Inland Revenue<br \/>\nService and other levies payable to government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It may equally, have been intended to avoid paying the five percent VAT<br \/>\nbeing charged on customers&#8217; bills.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The secrecy surrounding the operations of the hotel are both suspicious<br \/>\nand smacks of other clandestine activities, possibly cultism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oguche claimed that his findings are open secret to the staff of NIA,<br \/>\nadding that the Director-General of the NIA, Amb. A.R Abubakar,<br \/>\npersonally visited the hotel in March this year.<\/p>\n<p>He also alleged that Yasuf has another hotel in Lagos and lives in a<br \/>\npalatial house in Wuse II, Abuja, &#8220;which is far beyond his legitimate<br \/>\nearnings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oguche urged the EFCC &#8220;to investigate and determine whether as a civil<br \/>\nservant, Yusuf, is permitted to run these types of businesses and<br \/>\nwhether it is permissible for him to serve as a signatory to the<br \/>\naccounts of any other businesses outside the NIA, where he is the<br \/>\ndirector of administration?<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8220;To determine whether Ismaila Yusuf has declared these<br \/>\nproperties in his assets declaration form at the Code of Conducts Bureau<br \/>\nas required by law and whether he acquired these properties<br \/>\nlegitimately.
