{"id":70487,"date":"2019-11-20T15:47:49","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T14:47:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=70487"},"modified":"2019-11-20T15:47:49","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T14:47:49","slug":"accolades-to-chidoka-as-obosi-iwa-ji-festival-gains-global-prominence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/accolades-to-chidoka-as-obosi-iwa-ji-festival-gains-global-prominence\/","title":{"rendered":"Accolades to Chidoka as Obosi Iwa ji festival gains global prominence."},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\":o1\" class=\"ii gt\">\n<div id=\":o0\" class=\"a3s aXjCH \">\nThe erstwhile Aviation Minister and former FRSC boss, Chief Osita<br \/>\nChidoka, Ike Obosi, paid host to national and international dignitaries<br \/>\nin his country home, Obosi during the double celebration marking his<br \/>\ntenth chieftaincy anniversary and his annual new yam festival.<\/p>\n<p>The two day well attended events kicked off in the early hours of<br \/>\nSaturday, the 16th day of November, with an early morning jog within the<br \/>\ncommunity (Obosi). It is worthy to note that Chief Chidoka is an apostle<br \/>\nand advocate of physical fitness which has formed part of his daily<br \/>\nroutine.<\/p>\n<p>It was a beehive of activities the next day, Sunday, the 17th day of<br \/>\nNovember. The day began with a thanksgiving church service with family<br \/>\nand friends joining chief Chidoka in appreciation to God for the<br \/>\nworthwhile milestones in his life. Next was the historical iwa ji (yam)<br \/>\nfestival. The humongous ceremony which attracted dignitaries from across<br \/>\nthe world had series of cultural performances and masquerades as<br \/>\nchildren queued up in their hundreds to have a bite of the roasted yam<br \/>\nbeing handed them by the celebrant Chidoka.<\/p>\n<p>Smiles on faces of guests at the event can only be described as thrilled<br \/>\nand entertained.<\/p>\n<p>The celebrant, Chidoka speaking during the ceremony said the event was<br \/>\norganized to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Obosi and Igboland.<\/p>\n<p>He said he remained grateful to God who helped them to record bountiful<br \/>\nharvests, especially the yam which is regarded as the chief crop in Igbo<br \/>\nland.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are here to thank God for His Grace this year to celebrate new yam<br \/>\nfestival. As you can see, we are happy that our farm produce, especially<br \/>\nyam which is our major crop, are bountiful, I look forward to a<br \/>\nsituation where we can observe this festival at the state level to<br \/>\nfurther showcase our common cultural heritage,&#8221; Chidoka said.<\/p>\n<p>Guests at the yam festival took turns to eulogise the former minister<br \/>\nwhom they noted as a passionate believer, lover and custodian of Igbo<br \/>\nculture and pride. The dignitaries include but not limited to:\u00a0 the<br \/>\nimmediate past President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bia Koroma, Imo state<br \/>\ngovernor His Excellency Rt Hon.
