The controversial conference on witchcraft proposed for November 26 and
\nNovember 27 by the B.I.C Ijomah Centre for Policy and Research at the
\nUniversity of Nigeria, Nsukka has been cancelled by the school
\nauthority.<\/p>\n
The conference raised so much dust threatening to tear the institution
\napart as students, lecturers and alumni disagreed on the need for the
\nconference.
\nStudents and staff, who were opposed to the programme held several
\nprotests criticizing the conference which some described as evil.<\/p>\n
Campaigns were mounted against the conference both online and on campus
\nas leaflets and posters littered Nsukka calling for its cancellation.<\/p>\n
Special prayers were also held within and outside the campus against
\nwhat had been described in some quarters as “the work of the agents of
\ndarkness.”<\/p>\n
In a deliberate attempt to save the situation and rising tension the
\nVice Chancellor Professor Charlie Igwe Monday ordered the immediate
\ncancellation of the conference.
\nIn a statement signed by the acting Public Relations Officer, PRO, Okwun
\nOmeaku said the cancellation is in response to the yearnings of the
\npublic.<\/p>\n
The statement reads: This is to inform the university community in
\nparticular and general public that the Vice Chancellor Prof Charles Igwe
\nhas directed that the TOPIC for the Interdisciplinary and International
\nSeminar…be dropped forthwith.<\/p>\n
“This is in response to the yearnings of the public that have
\nerroneously misconstrued the ideas behind the choice of the topic, and a
\ntrue demonstration of Management with a listening ear. Other aspects of
