President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja expressed the strong
\ndetermination of his administration to forge a strong, united nation
\nfrom the diverse religious and ethnic communities in the country.<\/p>\n
Receiving the Tijjaniyya Muslim Religious Movement at the State House,
\nPresident Buhari lauded the prevalence of mutual understanding among the
\nfollowers of the two major religions in the country, Islam and
\nChristianity.<\/p>\n
“It is generally said that differences divide people.\u00a0 We in Nigeria
\nunderstand that there is no way a misunderstanding can cause division
\namong us. We are one people,” he said.<\/p>\n
President Buhari told leaders of the delegation, mostly\u00a0 \u00a0 Senegalese,
\nthat the Tijjaniyya religious order was not new to him or to Nigerians,
\nciting specific communities around him who practised its ways and
\ncommended them for being orderly, peaceful and constructive.<\/p>\n
“The requirements of our people, whatever religion they follow, and to
\nwhatever ethnic group they belong in Nigeria is the same.<\/p>\n
”They need security, education and participation in an inclusive
\neconomy. On this, we are being very fair to all Nigerians,” he said.<\/p>\n
The Nigerian leader welcomed the prayers of the religious group for his
\nwellbeing and for the peace and progress in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
He urged them to convey his best wishes to President Macky Sall of
\nSenegal, saying: ” I assure you that\u00a0 I am very close to your President.
\nHe addresses me as ‘Baba’,”.<\/p>\n
The leader of the delegation, Sheikh Muhammad Lamin Inyas, son of one of
\nthe greatest Muslim religious Leaders in West Africa, Sheikh Ibrahim
\nInyas said their father brought them up to love and appreciate his large
\nfollowing in Kano and Nigerian cities.<\/p>\n
“We are part of this country. We have come here to renew ties and the
\nbonds of relationship. This is our reason for the homage,” he said.<\/p>\n
The delegation prayed for the realization of best wishes and aspirations
\nof President Buhari, and for unity and solidarity among the universal
