Elumelu, CON, Founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and Chairman of\u00a0the\u00a0United Bank for Africa\u00a0Group\u00a0(UBA) and Heirs Holdings,\u00a0will\u00a0be conferred with\u00a0the\u00a0National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR\u00a0in recognition of his continuous hard work and total commitment to the empowerment of youths in Nigeria and Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The award ceremony will be held in Abuja, Nigeria\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">on Thursday, November 28.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The NPOM Award\u00a0was\u00a0instituted by the Federal Government through the Ministry of\u00a0Labour\u00a0and Employment to\u00a0honour\u00a0deserving Nigerians in recognition of their hard work and excellence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0In a letter from the\u00a0Minister of\u00a0Labour\u00a0and Employment, Dr.\u00a0Chris Ngige\u00a0stated,\u00a0\u201cThe President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has approved the conferment of the National Productivity Order of Merit Award on you in recognition of your high productivity, hard work and excellence\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Elumelu is one of Africa\u2019s leading investors and philanthropists, as well as the\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">most prominent proponent of entrepreneurship in Africa. In 2010, he created The Tony Elumelu Foundation,\u00a0a private-sector-led\u00a0<wbr \/>philanthropy empowering African entrepreneurs and championing African entrepreneurship on the continent. The Foundation\u2019s flagship initiative, the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, is a 10-year, $100 million commitment to identify, train, mentor and fund 10,000 young African entrepreneurs across 54 African countries.\u00a0The Foundation\u2019s mission is inspired by Tony\u2019s economic philosophy of\u00a0Africapitalism, which positions the private sector, and most importantly entrepreneurs, as the catalyst for the social and economic development of the continent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Embodying this narrative in the private sector, Mr. Elumelu has built his reputation as a corporate turnaround expert.\u00a0He is credited for leading the largest merger in corporate banking history in Nigeria, resulting in what is known as present-day UBA Group, Africa&#8217;s global bank, employing over 30,000 staff and with branches across\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">20 African countries, London, New York<\/a>\u00a0and Paris.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">In 2010, h<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">e founded\u00a0Heirs Holdings,\u00a0a\u00a0family-owned investment company, committed to improving lives and transforming Africa.
