The government\u2019s planned arraignment of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah over alleged false claims and an indebtedness of N135 billion to the\u00a0Asset Management Corporation<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0Nigeria<\/a>\u00a0failed to take place on Wednesday at a federal high court in Lagos following his absence.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The trial of the senator representing Anambra south at the national assembly was consequently adjourned tillFebruary<\/a>\u00a02020.<\/p>\n

When the\u00a0case<\/a>\u00a0came up, OlisaAgbakoba, counsel to Ubah, informed the court that his client has not been served with the charge.He also told the court that there was an ongoing mediation to settle the\u00a0case<\/a>\u00a0out of court \u201csince it is all about money\u201d.<\/p>\n

But AjibolaOluyede, counsel to Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, Ubah\u2019s company, acknowledged receipt of the charges and told the court that he has filed a preliminary objection to challenge the competence of the suit.<\/p>\n

Responding, Kunle Adegoke, counsel to\u00a0the federal<\/a>\u00a0government, said he might be forced to apply for a warrant to compel Ubah to show up in court.<\/p>\n

One of the charges reads: \u201ccount 1, That you,\u00a0Ifeanyi<\/a>\u00a0Patrick Ubah, and Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, sometime between 2012 and 2018, conspired in making false claims in relation to the actual values of certain assets-transferred to\u00a0Asset Management Corporation<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0Nigeria<\/a>\u00a0(AMCON) under the Consent Judgment delivered in Suit No. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/714\/2012 on the 1st day of July, 2013 in partial payment of the Indebtedness of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited with a view to defeating the realisation of the said judgment debt of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited to AMCON, then standing In the sum of 135 Billion Naira contrary to Section 54(1)(a) and (d) of\u00a0the Asset Management<\/a>\u00a0Corporation of\u00a0Nigeria<\/a>\u00a0Act, 2010 (as amended).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
