Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the state
\nwill launch a State Security\u00a0 Trust Fund as part of its move to
\nstrengthen security in the state to attract more investments.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike stated that all major companies operating in the state
\nmust contribute to the state security fund because\u00a0 they benefit from
\nthe resources and infrastructure of Rivers State.<\/p>\n
He spoke\u00a0 during a Courtesy Visit by the President of Nigerian
\nAssociation of Chambers of Commerce,\u00a0 Industry,\u00a0 Mines and Agriculture
\n(NACCIMA), Hajiya Iya Aliyu on Monday at the Government House Port
\nHarcourt.<\/p>\n
He said: “By January,\u00a0 2020, we will hold a security summit and also
\nlaunch a security trust fund. All the major companies operating in the
\nstate are\u00a0 under obligation to contribute.<\/p>\n
“We are committed to improving security in order to attract more
\ninvestments in the state. We are\u00a0 developing the right infrastructure
\nfor economic development.”<\/p>\n
Governor Wike said that the Rivers State Government will write Dangote
\nPlc to contribute,\u00a0 as it does in other states,\u00a0 pointing out that the
\ncompany uses the state’s infrastructure for her businesses.<\/p>\n
He said: “Dangote has not contributed anything to this state. I will
\nwrite him to support the security trust fund.<\/p>\n
“I cannot do roads and your trailers will take over our roads. If you go
\nto G.U Ake Road,\u00a0 you will see Dangote Trailers all over the state.<\/p>\n
“Zenith Bank,\u00a0 Access Bank and other major companies must contribute to
\nRivers State Security Trust Fund as they contribute to Lagos State.
\nThis is sufficient notice. As they contribute there, they must
\ncontribute here. If they don’t support Rivers State,\u00a0 we will not
\nagree.”<\/p>\n
He said that Rivers State is the best place that anyone can invest. He
\nsaid that the State will continue to improve security and
\ninfrastructure.<\/p>\n
The Rivers State Governor said no society can develop without the
\ncontributions of private sector.<\/p>\n
“We need the private sector to drive the economy.\u00a0 Look at what is
\nhappening in the USA, over two hundred thousand jobs in one month
\nthrough the private sector “, he said.<\/p>\n
He said that in order to encourage the private sector,\u00a0 the Rivers State
\nGovernment harmonised taxes. He noted that the State Government is
\nworking with the private sector to resolve the few challenges associated
\nwith taxes in the state.<\/p>\n
On the closure of the border, Governor Wike said that Nigerians are
\nsuffering over the border closure.\u00a0 He said that he sides with Nigerians
\nwho are not happy with the border closure.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike said that any organisation that receives the allocation of
\nland from the Rivers State Government must develop same within the space
\nof six months or risk losing its Certificate of Occupancy.<\/p>\n
Earlier,\u00a0 the President of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce,
\nIndustry,\u00a0 Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Hajiya Iya Aliyu declared
\nthat Rivers State is safe for investments.\u00a0 She applauded the improved
\ninfrastructure and security that are attracting businesses.<\/p>\n
She commended the Rivers State Governor for his harmonisation of taxes
\nin the State.\u00a0 She said that the action has encouraged private
\nbusinesses.<\/p>\n
The President of NACCIMA called on the Rivers State Governor to approve
\nthe Certificate of occupancy for the land allocated to the Port Harcourt
\nChamber of Commerce,\u00a0 Mines and Agriculture for the construction of her
\nTrade Fair Complex.<\/p>\n
She declared support for the closure of the border. The President of
