Soku Council of Chiefs,\u00a0 Elders and Leaders have commended the Rivers
\nState Governor,\u00a0 Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for his dogged struggle that led to
\nthe Federal High Court judgment that returned the Soku oil Wells\/fields
\nto the State.<\/p>\n
Addressing journalists on Tuesday,\u00a0 Chairman of Soku Council of Chiefs,
\nChief Telema Imoh said: “We the Council of Chief, Elders, CDC, Youth,
\nWomen and entire people of Soku Community in Kalabari-Ijwa ethnic
\nnationality in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State do
\nhereby address the press and state as follows:
\n” Express our immense thanks to God almighty for life on the victory
\nsurrounding the disputes of Soku land, Oil Wells\/Field and associated
\nrights.<\/p>\n
“We thank the executive governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Chief,
\nBarr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON, GSSRS, POS (JP) for his doggedness, in
\nsecuring the return of the illegally ceded Soku Oil Wells\/Field to
\nRivers State. We appreciates and identify with his developmental strides
\nin the State.”<\/p>\n
The Group added: “The whole issue of recent started with the illegal
\nceding of Soku Oil Wells\/Field from Rivers State to Bayelsa State; with
\nthe issuance of the defective administrative map (11th edition) wherein
\nthe age long inter-state boundary line was unilaterally shifted from
\nSanta Barbara River to St. Bartholomew in favour of Bayelsa State by the
\nNational Boundary Commission (NBC).”<\/p>\n
They pledged their loyalty and support to the Governor and\u00a0 also urged
\ntheir Kalabari brothers and Ijaws to also support him.<\/p>\n
“Efforts by the Government of Rivers State to correct the wrong
\nconstitutionally and constructively proved futile. This was even with
\nthe written admission and firm promise by the said NBC to correct the
\nerror in the administrative map of the (12thedition).<\/p>\n
“The National Boundary Commission equally reneged on their assurance to
\nall Parties not to apply the defective 11thedition of the administrative
\nmap in any official dealings. These are contained in their letter vide
\nNBC. SEC.4\/575\/25 dated 23\/07\/2002, this led to the Rivers State
\nGovernment going to Supreme Court in suit no. SC106\/2009 for justice.
\nThe Supreme Court in its judgment on the 19th of July, 2012 stated the
\nRivers Case as premature. It ordered the NBC being the statutory body on
\nthe matter to complete its demarcation having admitted their errors
\nearlier.<\/p>\n
“Dissatisfied by this ugly scenario, the Rivers State Government under
\nthe leadership of His Excellency Chief, Barr. Nyesom Wike approached the
\nFederal High Court Abuja, in suit no. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/984\/19 to effect the
\nenforcement of the declarative judgment.<\/p>\n
”\u00a0 \u00a0 Today the entire people of Soku Community are elated to thank God
\nalmighty, and the “Dike Oha Ikwerre” the Executive Governor of Rivers
\nState His Excellency Chief, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for his fighting
\nspirit to bring back the illegally ceded Soku Oil Wells\/Field to Rivers
\nState. The people of Soku cannot thank His Excellency enough for this
\ndeclarative judgment delivered on the 16th December, 2019. We wish to
\nexpress our unalloyed support to the administration of Governor Wike. We
\ncall on the Federal Government to also act on this court Judgment”, the
\nSoku Council of Chiefs stated.<\/p>\n
Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area thanked the Rivers State
\nGovernor for his support for the Soku people and the entire Kalabari
\nKingdom.<\/p>\n
He said the immediate past Administration in the state made so much
\nnoise about the Soku Oil Wells\/fields,\u00a0 but did nothing tangible to
\nretrieve the oil Wells\/fields.\u00a0 He said from the suit number,\u00a0 it was
\nclear that Governor Wike initiated the legal action to correct the
\ninjustice.<\/p>\n
Member Representing Akuku-Toru\/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency,\u00a0 Rt Hon
\nBoma Goodhead lauded Governor Wike for taking up the issue of Soku Oil
\nWells\/fields and ensuring that the people get Justice.<\/p>\n
She said the relevant authorities should ensure that the funds that have
\naccrued to Soku Community and Rivers State.<\/p>\n
