{"id":71042,"date":"2019-12-23T16:48:01","date_gmt":"2019-12-23T15:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=71042"},"modified":"2019-12-23T16:48:01","modified_gmt":"2019-12-23T15:48:01","slug":"fowler-was-removed-for-incompetence-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/fowler-was-removed-for-incompetence-presidency\/","title":{"rendered":"Fowler Was Removed For Incompetence-Presidency\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m893\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, has said the tenure of Babatunde Fowler as executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) was not renewed because he was not competent enough to generate enough revenue to the Federation.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Shehu told journalists during the weekend in Abuja that the federal government had to effect the change to solve the revenue challenge that the government is currently facing.<\/p>\n<p>Fowler\u2019s tenure as FIRS executive chairman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/fowler-i-hope-my-work-firs-remembered\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/fowler-i-hope-my-work-firs-remembered&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1577201392229000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHWYX6IDC6_O3gDNHm9qgFoOQYluQ\">expired on December 9<\/a>\u00a0and President Muhammadu Buhari announced Muhammad Nami as his replacement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, if you ask me, from my own understanding, the problem we have in this country is the revenue issue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a revenue problem because we are unable to generate as much money as it is needed to do more capital infrastructure and also service debt. Because of the low revenue earnings, people look at the size of our debt repayment and they scream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government is doing something about this and I\u2019m happy you have seen the change that has happened in FIRS, give them a chance, let see how they would perform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment is optimistic that things will look upward and the revenue will improve. And once there is an inflow that is sufficient to do a lot of these things, we may not even need to borrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the Buhari administration is borrowing to carry out essential projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not a scandal to borrow, the bad thing about borrowing is when you deployed it to your pocket.
