The Zamfara Government says it will drag a total of 108 civil servants
\nto court for allegedly receiving a double salary in different
\nministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the state.<\/p>\n
The state\u2019s Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Rabi\u2019u Garba, disclosed
\nthis at a press briefing on Sunday in Gusau.<\/p>\n
Garba said that the affected workers were discovered during the ongoing
\ninvestigation of workers\u2019 salary issues by the state\u2019s ministry of
\nfinance.<\/p>\n
He said that the exercise, under the leadership of Governor Bello
\nMatawalle, was not to witch-hunt anybody, but to ensure sanity in the
\ncivil service payroll in the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe affected workers found collecting more than one salary at different
\nMDAs were among the 4,972 civil servants who were suspended from
\nreceiving salary for the month of December 2019 as a result of various
\nirregularities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe discovered these irregularities from the payroll of November 2019
\nsalary in the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have suspended the affected workers from collecting salary until we
\nconclude the investigation,\u201d Garba said.<\/p>\n
He said the 108 workers, who were collecting a double salary, would be
\nhanded over to the state\u2019s ministry of justice for prosecution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also found 109 workers whose official names are different from the
\nnames of their salary accounts.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe discovered irregularities from 1,640 workers whose account numbers
\nare not found in the CBN server,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are also 485 workers who are supposed to have gone on retirement
\nbut are still collecting a salary. In fact, one of them is 119 years old
\nbut still collecting a salary.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also suspended the salary of 1,548 workers receiving salary under
\nmicro-finance banks because of various irregularities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have directed them to their MDAs for proper clearance,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
According to the commissioner, some of the MDAs involved in the salary
\nirregularities in the state are Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara,
\nArabic and Female Education Boards, Establishment and Hospital Service
\nManagement Board.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have suspended the directors of finance of all the affected MDAs,\u201d
\nhe explained.<\/p>\n
He urged the workers in the state to be patient with the state over any
\ninconvenience which the verification exercise might have caused.<\/p>\n
Garba said anyone who needed clarification on the matter should visit
