The Acting Chairman of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission,<\/div>\n

EFCC,\u00a0 Mr. Ibrahim Magu has warned those involved oil bunkering in the
\nNiger Delta region to desist from acts of oil theft and economic
\nsabotage.<\/p>\n

He gave the warning in Port Harcourt, Rivers State while addressing the
\nMedia.\u00a0 According to him, illegal oil bunkering is a terrible\u00a0 leakage
\nof the economy and the EFCC would not relent in fighting it.\u00a0 “Let me
\nalso use this medium to warn all illegal oil bunkerers to desist from
\ntheir nefarious operations.\u00a0 The EFCC is resolute in its fight against
\neconomic sabotage and oil theft. The Niger Delta is highly significant
\nto our national economy and the Commission will continue to do all that
\nis lawful and patriotic in ensuring that operators of illegal oil
\nbunkering are brought to book”, he said.<\/p>\n

The EFCC Chairman, who is on a Working Visit to the Port Harcourt Zonal
\nOffice of the Commission,\u00a0 \u00a0stressed that illegal oil bunkerers would
\nface tougher times in the new year.\u00a0 He paid an inspection visit to the
\n6th Division, Nigerian Army,\u00a0 Port Harcourt,\u00a0 where vehicles forfeited
\nto the Federal Government by illegal oil dealers are being parked.\u00a0 Magu
\nexplained that all the forfeited vehicles belong to the Federal
\nGovernment and the processes for their auction are still ongoing.<\/p>\n

“All the vehicles forfeited belong to the government. The processes are
\nongoing.\u00a0 We are following the processes stated in the Procurement Act.
\nWe are not hiding anything. All the vehicles auctioned are still there.
\nThe auction processes continue until payments and reconciliation are
\nmade”, he said.<\/p>\n

Magu commended the Media for its advocacy roles, stressing that it
\nremains an ally in the fight against corruption.\u00a0 \u00a0He tasked Nigerians
\nto be more active in lending support to the EFCC so that economic and
\nfinancial crimes would be more frontally tackled. “This is a year of
\ndecision.\u00a0 Every Nigerian must take ownership of the fight against
\ncorruption”, he said.<\/p>\n

On the issue of a perpetual injunction restraining the EFCC from
\ninvestigating officials of Rivers State government,\u00a0 Magu said that
\nevents had overtaken the judgment and that there are several rulings
\nthat had knocked off the injunction. “That judgment cannot stand the
\ntest of time. The judgment is overtaken by events and there are several
\njudgments that had nullified the injunction.\u00a0 The matter is now in
\nSupreme court”,\u00a0 he said.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
