Hell was let loose, in the Abakpa area of\u00a0 Enugu Wednesday, when a
\npoliceman slapped a soldier.<\/p>\n
The result was a violent clash between aren’t and police which left many
\ninjured.<\/p>\n
Trouble started when the soldier who was not in uniform approached a
\npolice man to ascertain why he was passing motorists in a particular
\nlane leaving motorists in two other lanes.<\/p>\n
This he complained was causing heavy traffic log jam.<\/p>\n
Not knowing that he was a soldier the policeman replied by raining dirty
\nslaps on the soldier.<\/p>\n
As expected the soldier put a call to his colleagues who trooped to the
\nscene, near the Abakpa market in a truck.<\/p>\n
As soon as they alighted from the vehicle that conveyed them they went
\nstraight to the police man and started beating him which attracted other
\npolice men close by.<\/p>\n
Many civilians who ran for their lives got injured while some police men
\nalso sustained injury as a result of the fight.<\/p>\n
Our reporter who witnessed the incident tried to interview one of the
\npolice men who declined to grant interview.<\/p>\n
However, a trader,who gave his name as Jude Nnaji described the incident
\nas most unfortunate and called on the authorities of army and police to
\nalways\u00a0 \u00a0caution their men to restrain from violence of any kind.<\/p>\n
He obsedrved that this kind of incident could have been avoided if
\nsecurity operatives are usually polite while dealing with people
\nirrespective of class, profession, religion and ethnic leaning.<\/p>\n
A call to the police public relations officer was unsuccessful as he
