{"id":71265,"date":"2020-01-09T20:02:47","date_gmt":"2020-01-09T19:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=71265"},"modified":"2020-01-09T20:02:47","modified_gmt":"2020-01-09T19:02:47","slug":"n336billion-for-2nd-niger-bridge-intact-says-ngige","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/n336billion-for-2nd-niger-bridge-intact-says-ngige\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a0N336Billion For 2nd Niger Bridge Intact, Says Ngige"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1655277620271122423\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has said the N336bn budgeted for the construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge is intact.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div>\n<p>He said the money for the project had been set aside by the Federal Government so that the project would not suffer any setback.<\/p>\n<p>Ngige, who spoke our reporter\u00a0in Awka, Anambra State, said the bridge was \u201cspeedily going on\u201d with about 45 per cent work done.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cThe 2nd Niger Bridge is ongoing. The contractor has made an undertaking on his own to deliver the project before the appointed date of 2022 and handover.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe them because they\u2019re working day and night. Apart from the little hiccup occasioned by demands for compensation, they\u2019re on schedule. The job is on 45 per cent completion and the fund for the construction is intact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is the good news for the people of the South East. The cost of the bridge from exit route of Delta and South- East , South- South is about N336bn, and the money is available unlike the Obasanjo\/Jonathan\u00a0 arrangements when they were trying to look for PPP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, we\u2019re building the bridge as one of the five flagship projects of the Federal Government, which are- Lagos\/Ibadan, East-West Road, 2nd Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, and Mabilla.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWork has started in all these because money is guaranteed. The 2nd Niger Bridge which concerns me and you and people of South-South, South-West and North-Central\u00a0 is on course. It\u2019s a very strategic bridge that links both North, South East, South South, South-West.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very cheering news because during the time of PPP, I opposed it in the Senate and I had a very serious altercation at the South-East caucus meeting with the then deputy senate president, Ekweremadu, the Ministry of Finance and then SGF Anyim Pius. I blasted them that they\u2019ve not treated us well. Whereas, others were getting bridges that are toll-free these people are giving us toll bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Ngige added,\u201dThe 2nd Niger Bridge is toll free for now. When are going to toll, we\u2019ll toll all the federal roads and bridges all together. So it\u2019s not a question of tolling the bridge to recoup our money.<\/p>\n<p>The minister contended that most roads labelled federal roads by state governors were not not federal road in the real sense of it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m one of those who believe that the federal roads in the whole of Nigeria should be tolled. As a matter of fact, a lot of roads they call federal roads, I don\u2019t believe they are federal roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe federal roads are the ones we call trunk A roads that leadd to state capitals.
