Application process underway as government ministers and business
\nleaders attend first ever UK-Africa Investment Summit; Africa has a
\nfast-growing tech sector which is driving growth and creating jobs on
\nthe continent<\/p>\n
Some of Africa\u2019s most innovative start-ups are invited to take part in a
\nglobal tech project to take their businesses and ideas to the next
\nlevel.<\/p>\n
Go Global Africa, a scheme run by the Department for Digital, Culture,
\nMedia and Sport through its International Tech Hub Network, aims to
\nbuild links with the UK\u2019s thriving digital sector and pave the way for
\nfuture economic partnerships.<\/p>\n
The successful programme, which first launched last year, is currently
\nopen to firms from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa developing tech
\nsolutions in finance, agriculture, health and clean energy.<\/p>\n
Entrepreneurs who have developed products that are ready to go to market
\nand already raised investment are invited to apply.<\/p>\n

Africa is home to a rapidly growing tech sector and it is great to
\nwelcome leading figures from across the continent to the UK-Africa
\nInvestment summit.<\/p>\n
Through the Go Global Africa project we are giving entrepreneurs the
\nsupport they need to grow their business and benefit from the UK\u2019s
\nworld-leading tech and innovation expertise. This will allow them to
\ncontinue developing technology to improve lives around the world.<\/p>\n

\nfor a place on this exciting project.<\/p>\n
Africa is home to a rapidly growing tech sector. Its start-ups raised 50
\nper cent more venture capital in 2017 than in 2016. The majority of this
\nis being invested in South Africa (\u00a3130 million), Kenya (\u00a3114 million)
\nand Nigeria (\u00a389 million).<\/p>\n
Nigeria\u2019s tech sector generates more than 10 per cent of the country\u2019s
\neconomic output and the sector is projected to create three million jobs
\nand generate \u00a367.4 billion for the economy by 2021.<\/p>\n
Kenya\u2019s technology sector is growing rapidly and is worth more than 11
\npercent of the country\u2019s economic output. It is considered one of the
\nmost vibrant, advanced and successful in Africa.<\/p>\n
South Africa attracted a record amount of investment in tech of any
\nAfrican country in 2017. It raised almost \u00a3128m and research by the
\nWorld Economic Forum ranks it as the best place to do business in
\nAfrica.<\/p>\n
The Digital Access Programme aims to boost digital skills and
\nconnectivity and build the cybersecurity capacity of partner countries.
\nIt will also help create a thriving digital ecosystem that will
\nstimulate innovation to address local development challenges, create
\nskilled jobs and generate partnerships between the UK and Africa.<\/p>\n
The launch of Go Global Africa 2020 coincides with the start of the
\nUK-Africa Investment Summit in London which will bring together
\nbusinesses, governments and international institutions to showcase and
\npromote investment opportunities across Africa.<\/p>\n
Attendees include the participants of the Africa-UK: Female Tech
\nFounders 2020 programme which will see 15 of Africa\u2019s most ambitious
\nwomen entrepreneurs visit the UK for a three-day programme to learn how
\nto grow their business, access world-class mentoring from UK tech
\nleaders and network with investors.<\/p>\n
