The Federal Government has expressed its readiness to meet outstanding
\nfinancial commitments to the various international organisations and
\nbodies to which Nigeria belongs.<\/p>\n
Minister of State for Budget and National Planning,\u00a0 Prince Clem Ikanade
\nAgba, disclosed this at a meeting in Abuja with the Country
\nRepresentative of Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United
\nNations in Nigeria, Mr Suffyan Koroma.
\nPrince Agba’s disclosure was a direct response to Mr Koroma’s request
\nthat Nigeria should settle its outstanding membership dues to the FAO.<\/p>\n
He directed the Department of International Cooperation in the Ministry,
\nwhich is responsible for coordinating the activities of international
\ndonor agencies, to produce a spreadsheet of Nigeria’s commitments to
\nenable government find ways and means to meet them.<\/p>\n
The minister took the opportunity to call for better coordination
\nbetween the Depratment of International Cooperation and the FAO together
\nwith other international donour agencies.<\/p>\n
Koroma had also briefed the minister on what he described as “the
\nseamless implementation of the policy on the European Union
\nCommission-funded Food and Nutrition Security Impact,\u00a0 Resilience
\nSustainability and Transformation programme in Nigeria.”<\/p>\n
In another development, the minister has solicited the support of the
\nFord Foundation in funding the Nigeria Institute for Social and Economic
\nResearch (NISER), Ibadan, in the critical area of capacity building for
\nresearch.<\/p>\n
NISER is a parastatal under the Ministry of Budget and National
\nPlanning.<\/p>\n
He told a team from the Foundation led by the Regional Head for West
\nAfrica, Mr Innocent Chukwuma,\u00a0 in Abuja, that Nigeria was open to
\nfurther support and collaboration in funding development in some
\ncritical sectors.<\/p>\n
He commended the Foundation for its more than six decades of unbroken
\ninvestments in Nigeria,\u00a0 and called for more funding support in the
\neducation sector.<\/p>\n
Agba said he was interested in the development of the right curriculum
\nthat “targets mindset change in dismantling the culture of violence
\nagainst women, which is one of the focus areas of the Ford Foundation in
