The Federal Government has assured\u00a0 the Government and people of Rivers
\nState that it will effect a refund of monies expended on Federal
\nProjects in the state.<\/p>\n
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike led the Federal Executive
\nCouncil Verification Team on a tour of listed projects in the\u00a0 state on
\nMonday.<\/p>\n
Addressing journalists after embarking on the verification of Federal
\nRoad Projects executed by the Rivers State Government on behalf of the
\nFederal Government,\u00a0 Minister of State for Education,\u00a0 Hon Chukwuemeka
\nNwajiuba said that the Buhari Administration will always abide by set
\nrules.<\/p>\n
He said: “The Federal Government has always cooperated with the people
\nof Rivers State. Rivers State is the strongest economic base of the
\ncountry and anything that the Government will do for the Government and
\npeople of Rivers State, the Federal Government will respond accordingly<\/p>\n
“The President is a stickler for the rules. We have addressed this
\neverywhere,\u00a0 except for five states,\u00a0 that we are now verifying . No
\nstate has had an issue. ”<\/p>\n
The Minister said that the Rivers State Government over the years did a
\nsplendid work in the construction of key projects in the state.<\/p>\n
“Terrific work\u00a0 has been done by the Government and people of Rivers
\nState on behalf of the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
“The Governor has taken us on extensive review of more than the six
\nprojects that we came to inspect,” he said.<\/p>\n
He expressed happiness with the tour of Federal Road Projects executed
\nby the Rivers State Government.<\/p>\n
He said: “I am glad we took time out to go and see all of them\u00a0 and
\nverify them physically.\u00a0 We are really sure that the State Government
\nhas done what is right. ”<\/p>\n
In an interview with journalists after the Joint Verification Exercise,
\nRivers State Governor,\u00a0 Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said he is confident that the
\nFederal Government will effect a refund.<\/p>\n
He said: “The Minister has come with his team and I believe they will
\nrefund us the funds expended on the road.<\/p>\n
“We have made submissions for refund, but we are yet to receive any
\nrefund from the Federal Government. I believe this last verification
\nwill come to fruition. I have confidence that they will refund us the
\nmoney expended on Federal Projects.”<\/p>\n
Governor Wike said if the Federal Government fails to effect the refund
\nas promised, the Rivers State Government will raise an alarm.<\/p>\n
“If they don’t\u00a0 refund , we will raise alarm and tell the world to help
\nus ask we are being denied the refund.<\/p>\n
“Now we are talking of governance and we need these funds to do more
\nprojects for our people. He has given us assurance that the Federal
\nGovernment will effect a refund this time around”, he said.<\/p>\n
The tour commenced at the over 41.26 kilometre dualisation of the
\nAirport-Isiokpo-Elele\/Omerelu road, the reconstruction of Ikwerre road
\nfrom Education to Agip flyover junction,
\nconstruction of flyover at Agip-Rumueme-Abacha roundabout and the
\nconstruction of flyover on East-west road at Obiri-Ikwerre with rotary
\nturning and service lanes.<\/p>\n
The verification team also visited the\u00a0 \u00a0construction of Eleme junction
\nflyover and interchange and the construction of Ada George road phase
\none and two.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike also led the team on an inspection of Flyover Bridges
