Former representative of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District at
\nthe National Assembly, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has built a laboratory
\nand donated desktop computers to Community Secondary School, Bera in
\nGokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Abe described the gesture as his
\ncontribution to give back to the development of the school and urged the
\nteachers, students and the community to ensure due diligence in the
\nusage of the computers.<\/p>\n
He said the computers will help to breed children that would compete
\nfavourably with other children in other parts of the world as no one can
\nachieve anything meaningful in the world of today without a good
\nknowledge of the computer.<\/p>\n
The Senator said: “I am handing over these desktop computers complete
\nwith desk and chairs to this school today because without computers
\nthere’s no point pretending that we are educating our children.<\/p>\n
“This computers will help breed children that will not become criminals
\nwho will shoot guns to scare people but children that will compete to
\nbecome Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers and Architects; positive children
\nthat will impact this community.<\/p>\n
“Anything we can do that will better the tomorrow of our children, let’s
\nall do it. I bought computers because that is the key to the future.<\/p>\n
“Our bringing computers here today is an acknowledgement of the fact
\nthat without computers, our children cannot learn anything meaningful
\nbecause the world today is online.”<\/p>\n
Abe, who is former Chairman, Senate Committee on FERMA, condemned the
\nattitude of some miscreants in the area, who came to shoot guns within
\nthe vicinity to scare the children and the people.<\/p>\n
Describing the action of the miscreants and their sponsors as the height
\nof irresponsibility, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain
\ncalled on the security agents to fish them out.<\/p>\n
The Senator also called on representatives of the people and the
\ngovernment of the day to provide adequate security in the area.<\/p>\n
He wondered if the government in his days have not provided an
\natmosphere of peace, he and other of his peers would not have been
\nsuccessful in life.<\/p>\n
Earlier in his welcome address, Principal of the Community Junior
\nSecondary School Bera, Agbora Baribor, thanked Senator Magnus Abe for
\nhis magnanimity and philanthropy.<\/p>\n
Baribor said: “This computer laboratory is a timely project considering
\nthe importance of Computer Education to the twenty-first century child.<\/p>\n
“It is a thing of joy that henceforth our students can have practical
\nknowledge of the computer.<\/p>\n
“This will position them to compete favourably with their counterparts
\nfrom other schools as job interviews, Jamb Examination and many other
\ntests are computer-based”.<\/p>\n
He also acknowledged among other things the Senator has donated to the
\nschool in the past which includes; provision of borehole, generator for
\nthe school and payment of Junior WAEC fees for two academic sessions.<\/p>\n
In his goodwill message on the occasion, Paramount ruler of the
\ncommunity, Chief Magnus Deekor thanked the Senator for all he has done
