{"id":72390,"date":"2020-03-21T05:55:29","date_gmt":"2020-03-21T04:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=72390"},"modified":"2020-03-21T05:55:29","modified_gmt":"2020-03-21T04:55:29","slug":"efcc-arrests-district-heads-son-five-others-for-fraud-in-sokoto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/efcc-arrests-district-heads-son-five-others-for-fraud-in-sokoto\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC Arrests District Head&#8217;s Son, Five others for Fraud in Sokoto"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1661692191706855961\" class=\"mail-message \">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Sokoto<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1661727049478208383\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">Zonal Office on March 17, 2020, arrested Tukur Sa&#8217;ad Dahiru, Murtala<br \/>\nSalihu, and Zaharadeen Adamu for an alleged offence of Conspiracy and<br \/>\nDiversion of public property.<\/p>\n<p>While parading the suspects on March 19, 2020 in Sokoto, the Zonal Head,<br \/>\nAbdullahi Lawal informed newsmen that on 20th September, 2019, the<br \/>\nSokoto Zonal office of the Commission received a petition written by<br \/>\nConcern Citizens of Tambuwal against the District Head of Tambuwal,<br \/>\nAlhaji Sa&#8217;ad Dahiru Mainasara and the former Chairman of the LG, Sambo<br \/>\nBello Modo, for alleged offences of Conspiracy and Diversion of public<br \/>\nproperty.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners alleged that, the District Head of Tambuwal, Saad Dahiru<br \/>\nMainasara conspired with Sambo Bello Modo, former LG Chairman of<br \/>\nTambuwal LGA, Tukur Saad and sold out an Ambulance belonging to the<br \/>\nCommunity&#8217;s Primary Health Care Centre, Modo in Tambuwal LGA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Upon arrest, the suspects admitted selling the Ambulance, which was<br \/>\ninitially purchased by Tambuwal LG at the cost of N4,000,000 (Four<br \/>\nMillion Naira) at a price of N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) to<br \/>\none Zaharaddeen\u00a0 Adamu &#8216;M&#8217; of Tambuwal town, and the money was shared<br \/>\namong themselves&#8221;, he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Lawal, the District Head&#8217;s son, one Tukur Sa&#8217;ad received<br \/>\nN200, 000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) from Zaharaddeen, being proceed<br \/>\nof the stolen public property and allegedly handed over the said sum to<br \/>\nhis father, the District Head, while the ex-Local Government Chairman<br \/>\nreceived N100, 000 as his share. He however, handed the Ambulance key to<br \/>\nZaharaddeen, being the buyer.<\/p>\n<p>It was further revealed that, one Alhaji Murtala A. Salihu, Manager of<br \/>\nNasarawa Motors, Sokoto, issued his company&#8217;s receipt to Zaharaddeen<br \/>\nAdamu claiming that the vehicle was purchased from his company, to cover<br \/>\nthe shady deal.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the Ambulance, which has been transformed to a commercial<br \/>\nbus, has been recovered from Zaharaddeen. More so, the N300, 000 being<br \/>\nproceeds of the transaction, has been fully recovered.<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, the Commission has arrested the duo of John<br \/>\nMobuse and Martha Okotie in Akure, Ondo State and Warri, Delta State<br \/>\nrespectively.<\/p>\n<p>They are alleged to have defrauded their victims with a fraudulent<br \/>\nonline PTDF Scholarship for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Awards in<br \/>\nNigeria Colleges of Education, Polytechnics and Universities for<br \/>\n2019\/2020 Academic Session.<\/p>\n<p>Upon their arrest, the principal suspect, John Mobuse, admitted to<br \/>\nreceiving over N1, 500, 000 (One Million Five Hundred Naira) from<br \/>\nunsuspecting victims across the country using Martha Okotie&#8217;s account as<br \/>\na conduit for receiving the monies.<\/p>\n<p>Also the Commission has arrested one Etsano Amaju in Sapele, Delta state<br \/>\nfor fraudulently collecting the sum of N45, 000 from one Dalhatu Ladan<br \/>\nunder the guise of selling him an Apple Laptop.<\/p>\n<p>The complainant alleged that since paying the said sum to the account<br \/>\nprovided to him, neither was the laptop delivered nor his funds<br \/>\nrefunded.<\/p>\n<p>In the course of investigation the suspect confessed that he had no<br \/>\nlaptop for sale and that he only duped the complainant.<\/p>\n<p>He is providing information on several similar deposits of N45, 000 seen<br \/>\nin the account and efforts are being made to contact the victims.<\/p>\n<p>Investigation is still ongoing and the suspects will soon be arraigned<br \/>\nin court.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1661727428392714602\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Court Convicts Two FBI Suspects, Four Others<\/p>\n<p>The Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,<br \/>\nEFCC, on Thursday, March 19, 2020 secured the convictions of two FBI<br \/>\nsuspects and four others before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High<br \/>\nCourt, Warri, Delta State for various offences bordering on<br \/>\nimpersonation, Internet fraud and operating a vessel within Nigerian<br \/>\nWaters without due registration and licence by appropriate authority.<\/p>\n<p>One of the convict, Patrick Erakposhere Onajokpe, alias John Mark was<br \/>\narraigned on a two count charge of fraudulently impersonating the<br \/>\nidentity of John Mark through which he defrauded unsuspecting American<br \/>\nladies.<\/p>\n<p>One of the count reads: That you Chief Patrick Onajokpe (alias James<br \/>\nMark) Glory Agbare (at large) Alfred Akpewe (at large) Elena Onah (at<br \/>\nlarge) sometime between 2014 and 2015 in Warri within the jurisdiction<br \/>\nof this honourable court fraudulently impersonated the identity of one<br \/>\nJames Mark claiming to be a black American working in deep sea off coast<br \/>\nof taxes, USA, in your hush app account where you enticed unsuspecting<br \/>\nAmerican ladies into romantic relationships\u00a0 online and in that process,<br \/>\nobtained the aggregate\u00a0 sum of $878,489,24 from ladies and you thereby<br \/>\ncommitted an offence punishable under Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the<br \/>\nCybercrime (prohibition prevention, ets) Act 2015 and punishable under<br \/>\nsection 22(2)(b)(iv) of the same Act.<\/p>\n<p>Upon his arraignment, the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it<br \/>\nwas read to him.<\/p>\n<p>In view of his pleas, the prosecution counsel, Aso Larry Peters, prayed<br \/>\nthe court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.<br \/>\nHowever, the defence counsel, Paul Ejiga, prayed the court to temper<br \/>\njustice with mercy as the defendant was a first time offender and has<br \/>\nbecome remorseful.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Nwite convicted and sentenced Onajokpe to five years<br \/>\nimprisonment, in the alternative, a fine of N6, 000, 000 (Six Million<br \/>\nNaira). He is also to forfeit all items recovered from him which include<br \/>\na Range Rover Jeep, a Petroleum Filing Station, an uncompleted plaza and<br \/>\nphones. Justice Nwite also ruled that the properties be sold with the<br \/>\nproceeds restituted to the victim of the crimes.<\/p>\n<p>In a similar vein, the court also convicted MacDonald Chukwuma Nnamdi<br \/>\nwho was arraigned on a two count charge of obtaining personal<br \/>\nidentification information and using same to file fraudulent tax returns<br \/>\nwith the inland revenue service, USA.<br \/>\nThe defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.\u00a0 The<br \/>\nProsecution counsel, Aso Larry Peters prayed the court to convict and<br \/>\nsentence the defendant accordingly. The defence counsel John Okhuihiev<br \/>\nbe prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Nwite sentenced the defendant to three years imprisonment with<br \/>\nan option of one million naira fine.<\/p>\n<p>One of the charges against him read. &#8220;that you MacDonald Chukwuma<br \/>\nNnamdi,\u00a0 Daniel Mercedis (at large) sometimes between 2018 and 2019\u00a0 in<br \/>\nBenin City within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did with<br \/>\nintent to defraud\u00a0 used attached\u00a0 e-mail to obtain personal<br \/>\nidentification information of others online and\u00a0 used same to file<br \/>\nfraudulent tax returns\u00a0 with the inland revenue\u00a0 service\u00a0 (IRS) of the<br \/>\nUSA and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section<br \/>\n36(1)of the\u00a0 Cybercrime ( prohibition prevention\u00a0 etc)Act 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the Commission secured the convictions of Akinwade Olajide,<br \/>\nOnume Kings\u013aey, Kelechi Ogbuiton and Seje Skinn. They were arraigned for<br \/>\noperating a motor vessel on Nigerian Waters without due registration and<br \/>\nlicence from appropriate authority.\u00a0 They were convicted and fined the<br \/>\nsum of N600,000 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira) each. The judge also<br \/>\nordered that the defendants undertake in writing to be of good<br \/>\nbehaviour.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><img
