{"id":72432,"date":"2020-03-23T12:13:52","date_gmt":"2020-03-23T11:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=72432"},"modified":"2020-03-23T12:13:52","modified_gmt":"2020-03-23T11:13:52","slug":"nigeria-records-first-coronavirus-death-as-former-ppmc-md-dies-of-the-virus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/nigeria-records-first-coronavirus-death-as-former-ppmc-md-dies-of-the-virus\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria Records First Coronavirus death As Former PPMC MD Dies of the Virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gs\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div id=\":nu\" class=\"ii gt\">\n<div id=\":nt\" class=\"a3s aXjCH \">\n<p>A Former Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, PPMC, Suleiman Achimugu has died of the corona virus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Achimugu becomes the first death case to be recorded in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the family of the victim has released a statement identifying him as Suleiman Achimugu<\/p>\n<p>The statement which was signed by Abubakar Achimugu said the victim was in self-isolation upon his return from the UK and personally called NCDC after experiencing some discomfort that is related to COVID 19 symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur family is deeply saddened to inform you of the sudden death of our beloved Father, Uncle, Brother, and friend. Engr. Suleiman\u00a0 Achimugu (former Md of PPMC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe died of COVID 19 on 22\/03\/2020 some days after he arrived in Nigeria from the UK.\u00a0 He was in self-isolation upon his return from the UK and personally called NCDC after experiencing some discomfort that are related to COVID 19 symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe tested positive and was promptly evacuated to the specialist hospital. He died while receiving treatment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe implore the general public to pray upon his soul and the recovery of infected persons. Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated,\u201d the statement read in part.<\/p>\n<p>The victim has since been buried according to Islamic rites.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, had announced that the death case was a 67-year-old male who returned home following medical treatment in the UK is the first death recorded.<\/p>\n<p>He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma and diabetes and was undergoing chemotherapy.<\/p>\n<p>The NCDC however says that of the total figure, Lagos State and the FCT have recorded 24 and six confirmed cases of COVID-19 being the highest in the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\":om\" class=\"hq gt a10\">\n<div class=\"hp\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"a3I\">Attachments area<\/div>\n<div id=\":op\"><\/div>\n<div id=\":oo\" class=\"aQH\">\n<div class=\"aZK\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"hi\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Former Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, PPMC, Suleiman Achimugu has died of the corona virus pandemic.
