The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges President Muhammadu Buhari to
\ndouse widespread public anxieties by immediately addressing the nation
\non the status of the Presidential villa, in relation to the COVID-19
\npandemic.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, “The party\u2019s demand is
\npredicated on public apprehensions of health safety issues in the Villa
\nfollowing reports that President Buhari\u2019s Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba
\nKyari, had tested positive to the deadly corona virus disease.<\/p>\n
“The PDP notes that though President Buhari was reported to have tested
\nnegative to the virus, it is yet imperative that he douses public
\ntension by addressing a distressed nation on the status of the Villa,
\nespecially given that other officials, like Abba Kyari, had travelled to
\nhigh-risk countries in the course of their duties.<\/p>\n
“The party notes that an address on the situation in the Presidential
\nvilla will further douse public concerns about the status of certain key
\nofficials, who have not been visible in the last few days.<\/p>\n
“The party stressed that Nigerians, no matter how highly placed, should
\nstrictly adhere to directives by relevant agencies of government on
\nhealth safety measures, particularly as they relate to isolation of
\npersons returning from foreign trips.<\/p>\n
“The PDP urged the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and other
\nrelevant agencies to adopt stringent measures to isolate and monitor
\npersons coming into the country as well as track and equally isolate
\nthose who had made contact with infected persons.<\/p>\n
“In this regard, the NCDC should move into the Presidential villa and
\nimmediately track and isolate all those who had made contact with
\nPresident Buhari\u2019s Chief of Staff, so as to check further spread of
\nCOVID-19 in our country.<\/p>\n
“The party called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and observe all health
\nsafety directives, including social distances, self-isolation, personal
\nhygiene and prompt report for medical assistance in the case of any
\nsymptoms.<\/p>\n
“The PDP expressed optimism that with a concerted effort by all
\nNigerians, our nation will overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.”<\/p>\n
