The Young Citizens of Nigeria\u00a0 (YCN ) has called on Federal Government
\nto allow thorough investigation into the explosion that\u00a0 wreak havoc\u00a0 at
\nAbule-Ado area of Lagos.<\/p>\n
YCN also applauded the speedy intervention of the National\u00a0 Emergency
\nManagement\u00a0 Agency (NEMA),\u00a0 Red Cross Nigeria and other humanitarian
\nservices on ground to ensure that those trapped were freed.<\/p>\n
The pressure group noted that although\u00a0 tragedies cannot be totally
\neradicated from big cities like Lagos, timely interventions can minimise
\ncasualty.<\/p>\n
The group also thanked God for the life of 3-year-old baby girl,
\nidentified as Favour who was rescued alive on Sunday from the rubbles of
\none of the collapsed building at the Abule ado explosion.<\/p>\n
Reacting to an earlier report credited to the Federal Government that
\nthe Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) would investigate the
\nexplosion, YCN\u00a0 in a statement issued on Tuesday\u00a0 by its Director of
\nMedia and Publicity, Augustine Nwaobi and signed by Chairman, Comrade
\nEkene Okonkwo, re-emphasised the need for proactive routine checks on
\npipeline installations across the country as a remedial to avoidable
\nloss of lives and properties.<\/p>\n
It urged the FG to stay on the side of humanity by not limiting
\ninvestigation into a disaster of monumental loss to the NNPC thereby
\nstopping security agencies from doing their statutory jobs.<\/p>\n
The statement reads: “The loss of seventeen lives many of whom were
\nschool children is saddening.\u00a0 It is more disturbing to know the since
\nthe ugly incidence happened on Sunday morning,\u00a0 there is yet to be any
\nconcrete report regarding the true cause of the explosion.<\/p>\n
“According to security and emergency services the explosion was as a
\nresult of pressure on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
\npipeline.\u00a0 But the NNPC had debunked that saying that the explosion was
\nas a result of a truck hitting some gas cylinders stacked in a gas
\nprocessing plant located near the corporation’s system 2B Pipeline Right
\nof Way which resulted in the explosion.<\/p>\n
“Considering the fact tha the explosion claimed 17 lives including that
\nof the Principal, Bethlehem Catholic School who died while rescuing
\ntrapped students.<\/p>\n
“And that of father, mother, 2 sons who died\u00a0 while going to church. 36
\nstudents, 19 adults were admitted at Navy Hospital with over\u00a0 200
\npersons displaced, 50 houses destroyed.<\/p>\n
” This explosion should be well investigated in order to properly know
\nits root cause. An incident of such tragic magnitude should be well
\nexamination without any form of bias.<\/p>\n
“Let’s use this opportunity to remind the Federal Government that some
\nNigerians suspect there is more to it than meets the eye and they
\nbelieve that the Catholic school which was blown out of the sky
\nalongside other homes, buildings and propeties were\u00a0 purposely
\ntargetted.<\/p>\n
“Another reason to properly investigate this tragedy is that just a few
\nweeks ago the Chief of Army Staff told Nigerians that Boko Haram is in
\nLagos and a school of thought thinks that the explosion is an evidence
\nthat needed to\u00a0 establish the Army Chief’s claim.<\/p>\n
“We therefore call on the government to expedite investigation so as to
\nremedy the notion that it’s covering up the truth. Let truth surface and
\njustice served on those behind this wicked and heinous act.<\/p>\n
“We want to appreciate the timely efforts of the National Emergency
\nManagement Agency, NEMA, the Red Cross Nigeria and other humanitarian
\nservices on ground to ensure that the level of casualty were minimised.<\/p>\n
“We thank God for the lives rescued expecially that of 3-year-old baby
\ngirl,\u00a0 identified as Favour who was rescued alive on Sunday from the
\nrubbles. Also we appreciate the Governor of Lagos State,\u00a0 Mr Babajide
\nSanwo-Olu for setting up a N2 billion relief fund to alleviate losses
\nsuffered by victims.<\/p>\n
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the people of Lagos state at this
\ndifficult time even as we pray for the souls of all those that were
\nkilled in this explosion”.<\/p>\n
