{"id":72603,"date":"2020-03-30T20:40:48","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T19:40:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=72603"},"modified":"2020-03-30T20:40:48","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T19:40:48","slug":"lirs-extends-deadline-for-filing-of-annual-returns-to-may-31-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/lirs-extends-deadline-for-filing-of-annual-returns-to-may-31-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"LIRS EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR FILING OF ANNUAL RETURNS TO MAY 31, 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">In view of the coronavirus pandemic altering socio-economic activities<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">around the world and as part of the on-going efforts to mitigate the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">effect on businesses and taxpayers, the Lagos State Internal Revenue<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing of Annual Returns<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">for Individual taxpayers including self-employed persons for two (2)<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">months from April 1 to May 31, 2020.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Statutorily, the filing of annual returns expires on the March 31st of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">every fiscal year, and attracts stiff penalties for defaulters. With<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">this extension as announced by LIRS, taxpayers are given a breather.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">According to the Chairman of Lagos State Internal Revenue Service Mr.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Ayodele Subair, the extension of deadline of the Annual Returns is in<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">response to appeals made by taxpayers as well as a policy shift by the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">agency to assuage the effect of COVID-19 on the taxpayers and residents<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">of Lagos State. &#8220;We implore the taxpayers to access our eTax platform<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">for all tax operations and administration matters, including filing of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">annual returns from the comfort of their homes and offices.
