{"id":72807,"date":"2020-04-15T16:47:58","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T15:47:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=72807"},"modified":"2020-04-15T16:47:58","modified_gmt":"2020-04-15T15:47:58","slug":"obama-endorses-biden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/obama-endorses-biden\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama endorses Biden\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Former President Barack Obama emerged from political hibernation on Tuesday to endorse Joe Biden\u00a0\u00a0and urge the Democratic Party \u2014 including, explicitly, supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont \u2014 to unite behind its presumptive presidential nominee in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/div>\n<p>In a lengthy video announcing his support, one day after Mr. Sanders himself\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/13\/us\/politics\/bernie-sanders-joe-biden-endorsement.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/13\/us\/politics\/bernie-sanders-joe-biden-endorsement.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1587049989628000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH_0TWNcb5AdKahJe5iLeEPGCLINg\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">endorsed Mr. Biden<\/a>, Mr. Obama praised Mr. Sanders for setting a new agenda for the party and signaled that more progressive ideas would be reflected in Mr. Biden\u2019s campaign going forward. At the same time, he urged fortitude in the face of the coronavirus, sounding less like a campaign-trail endorser at points than a president addressing a nation in crisis.<\/p>\n<p>His goal could not have been clearer: to energize the many\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/03\/13\/us\/politics\/joe-biden-young-voters-bernie-sanders.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/03\/13\/us\/politics\/joe-biden-young-voters-bernie-sanders.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1587049989628000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGSxmuDfqMdAIz3q5h9s3PakBJQig\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">younger<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/03\/18\/us\/politics\/bernie-sanders-progressives-elizabeth-warren.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/03\/18\/us\/politics\/bernie-sanders-progressives-elizabeth-warren.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1587049989628000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFNwe0qbSgt0mpnbUOVz6gdxDm7GA\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">more progressive voters<\/a>\u00a0who dislike or distrust Mr. Biden, and bridge the party\u2019s ideological divisions in a way that he may be uniquely positioned to do.<\/p>\n<p>Appealing directly to Mr. Sanders\u2019s supporters, he underscored the pivot Mr. Biden has been trying to make since wrapping up the nomination: from an argument, essentially, for restoring the pre-Trump status quo to an argument that this is insufficient.
