\nThe Action Democratic Party (ADP), has saluted Nigerian workers, on the
\nMay 1st, annual celebration of workers.<\/p>\n

The party said, Nigerian workers are the most resilient and dedicated on
\nthe continent of Africa. Although there are some limiting factors, which
\nmany of them do not allow to inhibit them in the discharge of their
\nduties, yet they remained patriotic and committed.<\/p>\n

Nigeria is faced with alot of challenges at this time, ranging from
\neconomic downturn and pandemic which is now threatening their sources of
\nlivelihood, we can only encourage them to keep the spirit high and hope
\nalive in the face of these challenges.<\/p>\n

The party however calls on the Nigerian government, Stakeholders, the
\nLabour Union and heads of business community, to put heads together on
\nhow to manage through this period, and not allow the temporary
\nchallenges to cause permanent damage to the source of livelihood of the
\nNigerian workers.<\/p>\n

ADP said that, “We recognize the impact of our Nigerian work force, both
\nin Private and Public sectors, in the nation building, you are
\nirreplaceable with robots or machines, because your efforts are
\npriceless, we can only urge you to keep on putting in your best, to the
\nservice of the Nation”<\/p>\n

Although the usual parades and speeches at public arenas will not be
\nobserved. There is an need to pay quality attention to the current
\nissues confronting the working class not only in Nigeria but other parts
\nof the world.<\/p>\n

Asian countries and other progressive governments like Hong Kong are
\nraising the salaries of workers, while Singapore is implementing pay cut
\nfor political office holders and senior bureaucrats.<\/p>\n

Sadly, Nigeria already pays some of the lowest workers’ wages, including
\nminimum wages, in the world.<\/p>\n

The least we expect is that governments take steps to pay the workers
\nwhen due.<\/p>\n

We call on government to help the private sector bear the burden of
\nforced closure or scale-down of productivity. We all need money to
\nmaintain the government imposed lockdown rules.<\/p>\n

As we have insisted in many fora it is the overpaid political
\nofficeholders that should temporarily give up some comforts till things
\nreturn to normal.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
