The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the manifest incompetence of the
\nBuhari Presidency as well as President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s lack of
\nvisibility and failure to personally lead from the front are responsible
\nfor the failure to check the spread of COVID-19 in our country.<\/p>\n

The PDP laments that the alarming increase in infection and mortality
\nrates in Nigeria would have been curtailed if the nation had a
\ncompetent, proactive and transparent leadership with the capacity to
\narticulate a quick national response to the pandemic.<\/p>\n

The party notes that the situation had been\u00a0 worsened by greedy and
\ncorrupt All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and the cabal in the
\nPresidency, who are cashing in on President Buhari\u2019s ineffectiveness to
\npillage resources meant for the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in our
\ncountry.<\/p>\n

The PDP describes as distressing that since the outbreak of the pandemic
\nin Nigeria, Mr. President had not demonstrated the desired visibility;
\naddressed the nation only thrice (each time, after much prodding), after
\nwhich he had remained out of public visibility, leading to lack of
\neffective coordination of the fight against the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Moreover, President Buhari has failed to act on wise suggestions by
\nwell-meaning Nigerians, particularly on administration of palliatives
\nand production of homegrown therapeutics.<\/p>\n

Since the third recorded broadcast, Mr. President had receded into the
\nsafety of the Aso Presidential Villa, leaving his inept aides to
\ncontinue to issue disjointed claims and uncoordinated directives.<\/p>\n

The PDP invites Nigerians to note that President Buhari\u2019s failure to
\nmake himself visible and personally lead from the front had resulted in
\nthe failure to develop a strong all-inclusive and seamless national
\nresponse against the pandemic; leading to diverse responses by various
\nstates and a consequent spike in spread and mortality rates.<\/p>\n

President Buhari had woefully failed to spur and lead a strong teamwork
\nof federal, state governments and the organized private sector for a
\nproactive response that would have checked the spread of the pandemic in
\nour country.<\/p>\n

The party observed that President Buhari\u2019s backseat approach had also
\nencouraged the reckless pillaging of COVID-19 palliatives by his
\nofficials, leaving majority of poor and vulnerable Nigerians unattended
\nto; a principal factor responsible for the general poor compliance to
\nlockdown directives in major cities.<\/p>\n

The PDP laments that given that Mr. President is working from a blind
\nspot due to his narrow involvement in the fight, his reopening of the
\neconomy without any post-lockdown stimulus had further worsened the
\nsituation as the resultant economic stampede had led to massive
\nviolation of health safety and social distancing protocols.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, our party holds that Mr. President\u2019s failure is also
\nresponsible for our nation\u2019s inability to rally indigenous researchers,
\nmanufactures, virologists and healers for homegrown solutions, which
\nwould have arrested the situation in our country.<\/p>\n

Rather, the Buhari Presidency is laidback, waiting for foreign solutions
\nwhile the pandemic ravages our nation<\/p>\n

Moreover, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had been bogged down
\nby political parochialism and abysmal corruption for which it is
\nshutting out our known experts from coming in to assist our nation with
\nsolutions at this critical time.<\/p>\n

The PDP therefore calls on President Buhari to accept failure, wake up
\nto the realities of the pandemic and justify his huge upkeep with
\nnational resources by personally leading in this fight as Nigerians will
\nnever accept any eventual resort to scapegoatism by his Presidency.<\/p>\n

Our party’s focus remains the health, security and wellbeing of
\nNigerians and we will not relent in protecting their interest,
\nparticularly at this critical time.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
