The\u00a0 Sokoto Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,\u00a0 EFCC,\u00a0 has\u00a0 arrested two Chinese:\u00a0 Mr. Meng Wei Kun and Mr. Xu Koi for offering a sum of N50million (\u00a0 Fifty Million Naira) only as bribe to its Zonal Head,\u00a0 \u00a0Mr. Abdullahi Lawal.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The suspects were arrested on Monday,\u00a0May 11,\u00a0 2020 in Sokoto.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The bribe was allegedly offered in a desperate\u00a0 bid to compromise ongoing investigations of a construction company,\u00a0 China Zhonghao Nig. Ltd,\u00a0 \u00a0handling contracts awarded by the Zamfara State Government to the tune of N50billion\u00a0 (Fifty\u00a0 Billion Naira)\u00a0 between 2012 to 2019.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The zonal office of the Commission is investigating the construction company\u00a0in connection with the execution of contracts for the construction of township roads in Gummi, Bukkuyun, Anka and Nassarawa towns of Zamfara State; and also the construction of 168 (One Hundred And Sixty-eight)\u00a0\u00a0solar-powered boreholes in the 14 local government areas of the state.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Alarmed by the consistency and professionalism of investigation being conducted, the company reached out to\u00a0Lawal with an offer of\u00a0 N100million ( One Hundred Million Naira)\u00a0 as bribe to \u201cbury\u201d the matter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In a grand design to trap the corrupt officials,\u00a0 \u00a0Lawal played along,\u00a0 \u00a0and on Monday,\u00a0 \u00a0two representatives of the company Meng Wei Kun and\u00a0 Xu Kuoi offered him\u00a0 cash totaling N50million (Fifty Million Naira) in\u00a0 their office along Airport Road,\u00a0 Sokoto.\u00a0 The cash was offered as a first installment.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The suspects were promptly arrested with the cash as an evidence.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Investigation of the construction\u00a0 company was informed by an intelligence on alleged conspiracy;\u00a0 misappropriation of public funds;\u00a0 embezzlement;\u00a0 official corruption;\u00a0 abuse of office, stealing and money laundering obtained against the Zamfara State government through inflated and uncompleted\u00a0 contracts awarded to the company.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Investigations have so far revealed that China Zounghao Ltd\u00a0 has received payments of over N41billion (Forty One Billion Naira)\u00a0 from the Zamfara State government, out of which about N16, 000, 000, 000. 00 (Sixteen Billion Naira) equivalent of over $US53,000,000.00 (Fifty Three Million US Dollars) was allegedly diverted and traced to some bureau de change operators<\/p>\n

The suspects would soon be charged to court.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
