Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that Sixty percent of coronavirus<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

cases recorded in the state are from oil workers returning from rigs.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike disclosed this today when the Management Team of Mobil
\nProducing Nigeria Unlimited paid him a courtesy visit at Government
\nHouse, Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n

He stated that it is for this reason that the state government has
\ninsisted that oil workers coming into the state must be tested to
\nconfirm their coronavirus status.<\/p>\n

The State Chief Executive\u00a0 noted that\u00a0 oil remains the main stay of the
\neconomy and that government actions are not targeted at anybody or
\norganisation.<\/p>\n

He recalled that recently the\u00a0 Nigeria Airforce Base, Port Harcourt also
\nquarantined fourteen oil workers out which three tested positive.<\/p>\n

“Its not in anybody’s interest to deny people to carry out their
\nofficial duties.\u00a0 Oil is the main stay of the economy of Nigeria and
\nwithout it we that is in this part of the country will find it difficult
\nto function.<\/p>\n

“My concern is that companies should always notify government of workers
\nthey are bringing into the state, so that our health officials can
\nmonitor them.<\/p>\n

“So all that we are saying is that we should work together. But people
\nbring in politics that Rivers State is difficult, they don’t want any
\noil exploration, that is because people want to play politics.<\/p>\n

“People say we don’t want foodstuff and livestock to come into the
\nState. That is not correct. What we are saying is that human\u00a0 beings
\nshould not be hidden with these items, ” he stated.<\/p>\n

The Governor lauded Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited for the support to
\nthe state government in its fight against COVID 19, pointing out that he
\nwill always ensure that the lives of Rivers people are protected.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Executive Director of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited,
\nMr. Udobong Ntia commended the State Governor for measures put in place
\nto contain the spread of COVID 19 in the state, particularly the
\nincrease in testing.<\/p>\n

He noted measures also put in place by the company to fight the virus
\nand\u00a0 donated\u00a0 RNA COVID 19 Testing Kits and hospital beds to the state
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n

Mr. Ntia assured the State Governor of the company’s commitment to
\nsupport his effort in providing safety and good health to the people of
\nthe state.<\/p><\/div>\n
