\nJustice Muhammad Saidu Sifawa of the Sokoto State High Court,\u00a0 on
\nThursday, May 21, 2020 granted bail to two Chinese: Meng Wei Kun and Xui
\nKuoi, being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
\n(EFCC) for offering N100million (Hundred Million Naira) bribe to the
\nSokoto Zonal Head of the EFCC,\u00a0 Abdulahi Lawal.<\/p>\n

The judge granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5million each to be
\ndeposited with the\u00a0 Director Litigation, High Court of Sokoto State,
\nwith two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be resident in the state
\nand must\u00a0 deposit a Certificate of Occupancy of his landed property
\nwithin the jurisdiction of the court.<\/p>\n

He also ordered the defendants to submit their international passports
\nwith the chief registrar of the court and demanded that they take an
\nundertaking that they would not travel out of the country throughout the
\nduration of their trial.<\/p>\n

The Chinese duo was arraigned on Friday, May 15, 2020 on a two-count
\ncharge of conspiracy and offering bribe to a public servant to the tune
\nof N100million (One Hundred Million Naira), contrary to Section 83 of
\nthe Sokoto State Penal Code Law, 2019 and Punishable under Section 83
\n(2) of the same Law.”<\/p>\n

The defendants had attempted to bribe\u00a0 Lawal\u00a0 to the tune of
\nN100million, of which a N50million (Fifty Million Naira) installment was
\ndelivered on Monday, May 11,\u00a0 2020 on behalf of a construction company
\nChina Zhonghao Nig. Ltd which the EFCC\u00a0 is investigating\u00a0 for an alleged
\ncontract scam to the tune of over N50billion between 2012 to 2019.<\/p>\n

Trial will commence on June 15, 2020<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
