\nThe Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,
\ninaugurated the Board of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety
\nAgency (NIMASA) on Thursday in Abuja, with a charge to the members to
\nspeed up completion of the Deep Blue Project.<\/p>\n

The maritime security project, also known as the Integrated National
\nSecurity and Waterways Protection Infrastructure, aims to
\ncomprehensively tackle insecurity on Nigeria’s territorial waters and
\nExclusive Economic Zone, up to the Gulf of Guinea.<\/p>\n

Amaechi told the new board members that the Deep Blue Project was
\ncritical to maritime security in Nigeria and the entire West and Central
\nAfrica region. He disclosed that about 60 per cent of the project’s cost
\nhad been paid by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n

The Minister charged the Management and Board of NIMASA to “go and
\ncomplete the Deep Blue Project,” stressing that the success of NIMASA
\nis, to a great extent, dependent on completion of the project.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Chairman of the Board, Honourable Asita O. Asita,
\nthanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the honour bestowed on them.
\nAsita pledged to work harmoniously with the NIMASA Management to deliver
\nthe Agency’s mandate.<\/p>\n

The board chairman stated, “If we must trade as a country, we need the
\nwaterways to be safe.” He said the security of the maritime domain was
\nof utmost importance to the country, adding that NIMASA cannot afford to
\nplay with the issues of safety and security.<\/p>\n

Other members of the 10-member Board are the Director-General of NIMASA,
\nDr. Bashir Jamoh; Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage
\nServices, Victor Ochei; Executive Director, Finance and Administration,
\nHon. Chudi Offodile; and Executive Director, Operations, Shehu Ahmed.
\nAlso on the Board are Adekola Adefemi, Mohammed Abubakar, Hassan Rasaq
\nMahmud, Eyewumi Daniel Neburagho, and Rear Admiral Ibikunle Taiwo
\nOlaiya.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
