As the Wike administration in Rivers State gears up to mark successful
\nfirst year of its second tenure on the 29th of May 2020, some elder
\nstatesmen have expressed delight over the unfettered leadership Governor
\nNyesom Ezenwo Wike has continued to offer the state amidst Covid-19
\npandemic.<\/p>\n
The elder statemen recounted how the broken walls of development and
\nbrotherliness were mended in his first tenure with\u00a0 sectorial
\nperformances and services provided by strategic institutions of
\ngovernment have remained efficient under his leadership into his second
\ntenure without any lapse.<\/p>\n
Chairman of Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority, Chief Ferdinand
\nAlabaraba said everybody within the state can attest to the fact that
\nconstruction of critical road projects and the three flyovers bridges
\nhave continued despite the covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
He said,\u00a0 such commitment to delivery of projects to Rivers people
\ncombined with the tackling of the Covid-19 pandemic is matched because
\ngovernor Wike provided palliatives to people in all local government
\nareas to cushion the hardship they experience.<\/p>\n
“He has taken all necessary steps to ensure that the disease does not
\nspread and also to ensure that the people are protected. People have
\ncriticised him but we know that he is doing the correct thing we all
\nsupport him. He has not only done that,\u00a0 he’s also not left out his
\npeople,\u00a0 giving palliatives to all LGAs of the state.\u00a0 It is a matter of
\njoy that the governor has at all times,\u00a0 worked for the interest of the
\npeople and has the support of the people in all he does.”<\/p>\n
Speaking on project execution in AkukuToru, chief Alabaraba said the
\nongoing construction of the ring road in Abonnema town is almost ready
\nand likely to be commissioned in the next few weeks and it will enhance
\nthe economy activities of the people.<\/p>\n
The elder statesman commended the governor for the cash compensation
\ngiven to Abonnema Town people that suffered from the Military invasion
\nduring the 2019 presidential election, saying it is a demonstration of
\nlove and care of a leader to his people.<\/p>\n
Senior advocate of Nigeria, Chief Onueze Okocha who sued for patience,
\nunderstanding and cooperation from all Rivers people who desire good
\ngovernance that governor Wike has continued to provide, urged them to
\nremember the inglorious past when the state was on its knees from where
\nthe governor took it up to chart a new course.<\/p>\n
He said the courts are working now,\u00a0 like all arms of government, with
\nconstruction of projects unabated.<\/p>\n
According to him, he had boldly confronted covid-19 pandemic to mitigate
\nalarming health crisis in the state.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately,\u00a0 but happily only four LGAs of Rivers State have
\nreported incidence of persons having covid-19.\u00a0 The measures,\u00a0 he has
\nput in place, I believe to a large extent,\u00a0 helped us to contain the
\nspread of the virus. There has been lockdown which some people found
\nvery unpalatable.\u00a0 Of course,\u00a0 when you have a serious ailment you must
\nfind a serious medicine to deal with it, which is why I keep speaking to
\nthe people of Rivers state to exercise patience with the governor to
\nshow understanding especially because we are seeing the result. ”<\/p>\n
The senior advocate berated the security agencies for sabotaging
\nmovement restriction but noted that beyond such betrayal,\u00a0 Rivers people
\ncan celebrate another successful year of the Wike administration.<\/p>\n
“I believe that we are here to celebrate even in this very troubling
\ntimes and doff our hats for the man who we elected to govern Rivers
\nState.\u00a0 His first year in the second tenure has been successful and I
\nhope and pray that the succeeding years that he has in office from now
\nup till the 29th Of may 2023 will also be happy years for which we will
\ncelebrate and thank God that at this point in time a man called Nyesom
\nEzenwo Wike was our governor.”<\/p>\n
On his part,\u00a0 Chief Emmanuel Anyanwu recalled how Governor Wike
\nreconnected Etche local government area by road to Port Harcourt with
\nthe construction of\u00a0 Chokocho – Rumuokwurushi Road
\nAnd Chokocho-Ozuzu Road that were impassable.<\/p>\n
According to him,\u00a0 the Odofor-Akporka-Umuoye Road that is under
\nconstruction is expected to be completed before the end of the second
\ntenure of the governor.<\/p>\n
He noted that Etche people like every other local government area in the
\nstate are indebted to governor Wike for the inclusiveness they have
\nenjoyed in his administration, declaring that governor Wike has been
\nbold speaking in defence of the state and its people regularly. .<\/p>\n
“We believe in him and are happy with his success in office. The entire
\nelders and the state are behind him,\u00a0 Let people say if he had not
\nmanaged infrastructural development very well, including humans beings.
\nGovernor Wike is in touch with his people as a grass root leader.
\nWithout him,\u00a0 there would not be PDP in Nigeria.\u00a0 He has supported
\npeople in leadership to succeed in all areas he had served.”<\/p>\n
