Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has inaugurated a 15-man Community Policing<\/div>\n
\n
Advisory Committee to check insecurity bedeviling parts of the State.<\/p>\n

Governor Sani Bello who presided over the inauguration at the Government
\nHouse, Minna, said the essence of
\nthe Committee is to have a robust system from the ward level.<\/p>\n

“I believe that security controlled at the ward level will have a great
\nimpact with regards to the general security of the State. I am glad that
\nthis is happening now at a time we are faced with a lot of security
\nchallenges”, he said.<\/p>\n

He said the best place to combat crime is at the grassroots level,
\nadding that
\nwith the Committee in place, things will improve security-wise.<\/p>\n

While emphasizing the need for those to be recruited to have impeccable
\ncharacter, Governor Sani Bello lamented the infiltration of bad eggs
\ninto security outfits in the country thereby jeopardizing operations
\nagainst criminal elements.<\/p>\n

He assured that those selected as Committee members are people of proven
\nintegrity.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IG Abubakar
\nAdamu, DIG Lawal Shehu of the Force Headquarters, Abuja said due to the
\nprofessionalism of the IGP he has been successful in implementing the
\nlong awaited community policing initiative that has been on the pipeline
\nfor a long time.<\/p>\n

The DIG said that the scheme is a collaboration with the Police, other
\nsecurity outfits and the community to fight crime, with a view bringing
\nit to the barest minimal.<\/p>\n

He urged the Niger State government to take the Community Policing
\nInitiative as its baby and ensure that the aim of establishing the
\nscheme is achieved.<\/p>\n

He then commended Governor Sani Bello for the prompt support he has
\naccorded the Police Force to fight crime in the State, describing him as
\none of the best Governors supporting them.<\/p>\n

He assured that prompt report will be provided regularly to the
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Usman who is the Chairman of
\nthe Committee noted that Community Policing is in partnership with
\ncommunities in solving crime problems affecting them.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the State Community Policing Advisory Committee is
\nthe highest regulatory body in the State while sub+committees are: State
\nCommunity Policing, Area Command Advisory, Local Government Community
\nPolicing, and the Divisional Community Policing.<\/p>\n

The Committee has HRH. Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger State Council of
\nTraditional Rulers Alhaji ABUBAKAR Yahaya as Co-Chairman who also
\nassured of the committee’s support saying it is a timely intervention.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
