The Presidency has said that President Muhammadu Buhari who came to<\/div>\n

power on the mantra of change was making the change Nigerians asked for.<\/p>\n

The Presidency in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to
\nthe President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja said
\nthat the government was still focused on delivering the mandate for
\nchange.<\/p>\n

It stated that because of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown measures
\nimplemented to stem and halt its spread, much of what the administration
\nstrives for and delivered may seem at risk.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, President Buhari realizes the burden so many
\ncitizens carry just to make ends meet, and the suffering they endure.<\/p>\n

The statement read, \u201cOn the first year anniversary of his second term in
\noffice, President Muhammadu Buhari assures all Nigerians that the
\nmandate for change remains relevant and will be steadily followed to
\nimprove livelihoods. \u201d<\/p>\n

The campaign had been hard-fought, yet the mandate the people of this
\ncountry gave him was decisive. He won that election with a distance of
\nnearly four million votes or 15 per cent of the total votes cast over
\nhis closest opponent.<\/p>\n

\u201d It was then \u2013 and is today \u2013 a mandate for change. \u201d For many years
\nNigerians have yearned for something different: less of the corruption
\nand immoral greed of those who once governed; more decency in public
\nlife and fairness, and a chance to succeed. Nigerians yearned for
\nimproved security and end to terrorist bombings and for long-delayed
\ninfrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cDay by day, step by step, the President and his team are making the
\nchange that Nigerians have demanded. \u201d And it is a demand. Elected
\nofficials are servants, not masters. They govern at your discretion. The
\nauthority is yours to grant \u2013 and it is yours to take away.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Presidency said that since last year, President Buhari had strived
\nto implement the plan Nigerians endorsed with their votes.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has overseen an increase in foreign investment; construction of new
\nroads, bridges and rails, and put structures in place to improve
\nemployment, and accomplished the diversification of the national economy
\nthrough massive growth in agriculture.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President secured the long-overdue return of taxpayers\u2019 monies from
\noverseas, stolen in the 1990s, and put this to use in supporting
\ncitizens in dire need.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown measures implemented
\nto stem and halt its spread, much of what the administration strives for
\nand delivered may seem at risk.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Buhari realizes the burden so many citizens carry just to
\nmake ends meet, and the suffering they endure. \u201d The President assures
\nNigerians that this too shall come to pass.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs he said in a recent speech: \u201cWe are bolstering our capacity to
\ncontain the virus. Soon, when we overcome our present troubles, the work
\nto build Nigeria will start anew. And as we do, we find ourselves before
\nthe gates to a new, post-Covid world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks to reforms in governance, our war on corruption and the hard
\nwork and trust of the Nigerian people, we are better positioned as a
\nnation than ever before to seize new opportunities that await us to
\ntrade, build, make and export with the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thank you, the people of Nigeria, for your wisdom and your
\ndetermination for change. We go forward, together.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
